Make Gareth Southgate manager

Other than having a sentimental link to the Palace - there is ZERO reason to think Southgate has the requisite skills to succeed as a Top manager in the Premier League - especially at Palace.

Too much of a risk - and a giant leap in the wrong direction as far as I’m concerned.

Im surprised at the Southgate comments especially from Palace fans. We need a manager that's going to grow with the club, not one that wants to move after a bit of success. We've invested massively in our academy and we need a manger that can bring this talent into the first team. The new manager must stick within budget and realize we must cash in on high value players to prosper this club.

I like Southgate but the Euro final v Italy was a complete bottle job .
We had a very ordinary Italian team on the ropes and then just disappeared into our shell .
Same v France and Croatia to a lesser extent .

The Italy one was the one for me. It was there for the taking. And the subs too! Brain went didn't it. I don't blame him, these things happen.

That's a bit strong. I think he can probably have a future career. He'll need to get a move on though. The longer he's out, the less likely he'll get a job.
Failing a job in football, there's alway men's fashion, or men's grooming these days.
Im being obnoxious. I like Gareth and personally would welcome him as our manager.

You put over a good case bb, but my biggest fear is it’d be like Roy 2 with the style of play and set up. Roy did a great job to more than keep us up, but it became so painful to watch, especially at home and although Southgate did a good job with England it wasn’t great to watch at times and he was left wanting with the big decisions once we came up against the top nations.
Would he be able to cope with the relentless nature of club football again as well?

funny. I get people's reservations but I honestly feel its the type of person we need. He's professional, loyal and will work with the academy and the board of directors.
There's a lot to be said for that - for a manager who accepts the limitations that go with the job and is prepared to roll his sleeves up and work with the resources he has including the brightest in the Academy. Whether Southgate is the right person from a club manager point of view, I'm not sure.

Something struck me when I saw Roy Hodgson and Gareth Southgate together at Wembley; minutes after the victory.

Roy looked like a Palace fan, happy as hell.
Gareth looked bloody miserable.
