Mateta and Muñoz

You may complain about Mateta's finishing this season, and while it may not be on the same level as last year let's not turn our noses up at the fact he is joint third place in the leagues top scorers, behind Thiago and Haaland only.

In the calendar year 2025 is Mateta only behind haaland for goals scored?

A player's worth is determined by the market. Whatever valuation the club might like, it's down to whatever one (or preferably two , competing) clubs are willing to pay. Players (and their agents) also have wage demands

I'd hate to see Munoz leave as he brings so much positive energy to the team, as well as goals.

As for JP .. I was going to say he's not the player he was, but in fact he is the player he was - i.e. in the days of Roy and Viera. However, the arrival of Glasner seemed to have transformed him into a sharp and potent striker. But, this season, that composure and confidence in front of goal seems to have deserted him. Perhaps it will come back, but with a midfield that doesn't contribute goals we cant afford to have our main striker mis-firing as well. However, even with his current malaise, I wouldn't let him go unless we have decent replacement lined up.
The replacement would be Brenden Johnson, If, we could get him.

Johnson is decent, a quick player and sharp finisher.
However, he has little physical presence abd doesn't offer much in the way of hold up play to bring others into the game.

Glasner has mentioned the need for another player to 'run in behind' and Johnson seems to be a player more in this mould.

28/29 is a players peak.
Both got 4/5 years left in them (it’s not like mateta relies on his pace).
What will we get with 70m (if we got that)
Nketia was £25m,they want £17m for Uche. Both are w*nk.
Liverpool would want £45m for the little fat fella with the perm they bought from Fulham.
No thanks. Munoz and mateta both decent and both settled.

Is it time to cash in on this pair in January, should get at least 70m+ for the pair, 28 and 29 respectively, and get Johnson and Boey (if we could) 24 and 25 respectively, and bring in Oscar Bobb in a loan with option/obligation to buy, wages wouldn't be a problem, to freshen up our attack.

Yep rather keep em until the summer at least. Can see the benefit in cashing in by then though.

I am hoping we will be allowed to strengthen a bit at least without anyone going, in Jan. Based on current trajectory and comments of Oli and Steve.

We need three players in, a rotation option for Mateta, a rotation option for Sarr and Pino (someone who can play either side), and a backup or rotation for Mũnoz.

Tbh, even two signings will do if they are the right ones. The biggest noise right now is around Sasha Boey and Brennan Johnson.

If both of those rumours are true and we pull them off, Boey is a great rotation option with Mũnoz, and Brennan could cover all three attacking roles at a high level.
I can't get enthusiastic about Johnson. Do we really want to smash our transfer record for a bench player on a team lower than us in the league? I suppose he will get a better service from us that will exploit his speed but he is very limited creatively and not good on the defensive end. TBF, he would probably have put a few chances away that our front three have been missing

He's a good player but I always wonder why he isn't picked more. I'm suspicious as to why they'd want to sell at all. Surely, he's got loads ahead of him. I'm guessing there's something not working out at Spurs. Maybe training? Attitude? No idea.
Whenever I've seen him he's ok but I often think he could be better, if he tried harder

There is a distinct possibility that its all complete bull.

Potentially eaiser for his agent to drop some gossip than the player go moaning to Frank

Picking out Nketiah and and a player we probably wont sign is not a balanced assessment, for 70m we bought Sarr, Olise, Eze, Muñoz, Mateta, Kamada, Lerma, Hughes and Richards. and i think the bold type might be not certain.

The only problem I see with this is that we dont have a great record for speedy dealing. We will only have 4 weeks to sell two players and buy say four new ones.
We also have a very heavy schedule of games through most of january. I just dont think we are that geared up for such a plan, although in principle it makes a lot of sense.

My view is to keep the squad together for the rest of the season and add a couple in January if possible.
See where that takes us.

Summer is likely to be the time for a major transition with uncertainty over the futures of Glasner, Guehi and Munoz and with the contracts of players like Kamada, Lerma and Clyne coming to an end.

I'll await much criticism for this, but I wouldn't be averse to getting Ayew back on a short term loan.
He's not going to Afcon, can play across the front 3, knows Glasner's system and the club and players.
I don't see him as a starter but somebody who can come on as sub or help close out games. He's adept at winning free kicks and could be a useful sub on occasions for Mateta who finds it difficult to last games with his injury and fitness.

Guehi will go on the last day after West Ham cancel Igor 'one start' Julio's loan and Brighton offload him on to us

Glasner dropped him after the home Man City 2-4 defeat when he selfishly refused to pass to the unmarked Eze and Mateta at 1-1 and shot wide then failed twice to track De Bruyne running past him to score each time. Ayew is Championship level at best and there is no way Ollie will have him back.

I salute your keen recall and don't dispute the details.
For the avoidance of doubt, I'm not talking Ayew as a long term solution.
It would be a pragmatic solution to get us over the January/February hurdle.
We won't have Sarr, Kamada or Munoz in the coming weeks.
We have fitness doubts over both JPM and Nketiah.
I'd prefer not to have to see Devenny thrust into a front 3 role if possible.

I merely see Ayew as a contingency option who wouldn't have a learning curve about Glasner, our players or our system.
If we can get somebody in January who can tick all the boxes then great - forget about Ayew.
However, I'm unconvinced we will do this.
