60 m 2-3 players. Who do you get and why

Two players who can play across the front 3, i.e players you'd be excited to see come off the bench or start, and cover at RWB.
The sides we are competing with have this strength in depth.
The art is getting these players at prices and with wages we can afford.
In reality I'd probably be content if we got one of them!
Haven't got names I'm afraid, but I'm thinking Antonio/Bolassie types when they were at their peak with pace and power that opposing defences hate.

Id spend as much of it as necessary to get Kees Smit. However, he'll be off to a much bigger clubs I assume.

In which case I'd try and get Harvey Elliott for 25m, Boey for 15m and then spend the rest trying to get another attacking player.

Don't know who, maybe that Rocco Vata at Watford? He's 20 and seems an exciting attacking prospect and we've done well shopping in the Championship before.

Predominantly a left winger as well which could be good as I'm not wholly sold on Pino yet in truth.

We need a forward, but who knows whether Mateta is staying or going, or whether the club will take the option to buy Uche?

Three interesting things about the OP question:

1. We will never be able to spend this hypothetical £60m on one player (i.e. a player as good as Olise or Eze to replace them) even if we have the money, as a £60m player simply will not sign for Palace. We have always got to repeat the cycle of shopping in the £0-30m bracket even if we are flush.

2. We have a pretty good record in the £15-30m bracket:

Hit: Lacroix, Sarr, Wharton, Henderson, Richards, Geuhi, Andersen, Matatea, Eze, Doucoure.
Miss: Franca, Ahamada, Edouard.
TBD: Pino, Nketiah, Canvot, Esse, Riad. I've left Uche out as he is still on loan at the moment.

3. We have a good record in the free-£10m bracket (Kamada, Lerma, Johnstone, Munoz, Olise, Hughes, Clyne, Ayew).

I know a few on here were not keen in the summer, but I would be sniffing around Harvey Elliot. Liverpool don't want him and have apparently budgeted for his sale, but Villa are not playing him and (reportedly) that is partly because they can't actually afford to sign him, which they would be obliged to do if he plays more. That could drive his price down. He was the star of the u21s in the summer, could play in one of the no10 positions for us, and would fit the value/saleability profile if we get him cheap enough.

Kilman at West Ham would be a good replacement for Guehi, though I can't imagine it would happen unless they went down.

Hayden Hackney seems good from what little I have seen.

Chelsea, as ever, have got 200 squad players who will all play about 7 hours a season but somehow have an asking price north of £25m. If we could get a good price, I would look at Tyrique George, but only if his heart was totally in it.

Kilman is a definite no for me. Massively overpriced and overrated and aged 28, so his value will only go down from here. That's why we sold Andersen.

For me it depends on the price, and the system we play next year.

If West Ham want the £40m they paid for him then they can forget it. If they will take £15-20m then I'd go for it. He isn't Maldini but he's a proven top flight defender, at his peak, who is settled in this part of the world already. He is left-footed, I think, so would slot in on the left of the back three nicely. We wouldn't make a profit on him but if he played for four or five years then its still good value.

If Glasner leaves and the new manager reverts to a back four then it all changes a bit. Richards and Lacroix would presumably be first choice, with Canvot as back up. That might be OK and allow Canvot to play enough to develop but not enough to shoulder too much responsibility.

I thought the question was in the title !

Er, Sterling on loan and a cover for RB, and give Esse some game time or loan him, don't sell him.

Think esse will get some games soon. Sitting and watching makes you want to take part. Gets another chance and let’s hope he remembers not. To be messi and how to defend.
Glasner said yesterday that he was about to bring on Esse to add some pace to the attack but Guehi scored so he changed his subs for a more defensive line up. It means, though, Esse is about to be brought back into the fold presumably because he is listening and learning.

I wonder if the pre-match talking to by Clinton Morrison before the match has anything to do with it?

I'm not convinced Esse will see that much more game time, even in Sarr's absence.
He's got Nketiah, Kamada,Devenny and possibly Uche ahead of him to fill Sarr's position.
Strangely enough we're being linked with another winger, Rocco Vatta of Watford.
It's evident that Glasner does not seem to have a preference for out and wide players if doesn't suit the tactical system.
He has seemed unsure on Rak Saki, Esse and Franca so I wonder if Vatta would fare any better if he joined.

It certainly was! It just made me think.

Given what we got for Olise and Eze, what we perhaps could have got for Guehi, and what we should get for Wharton, we might be in the position more often of selling one good player a year, leaving one empty spot in the team where a really good player worth around £60m used to be, having £60m to spend, but never being able to get a £60m player to fill the vacancy!

Every time palace make a big sale, which is sort of their plan these days, the club will always have to ask itself the exact question you posed.

I'm sure it's possible to sell a player for £60m, get two or three new ones in with the money, and be better for it overall, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Remember when spurs blew the Bale money? That's easily done.

It isn't the plan to sell our best players every season, that isn't sustainable and remain in the Premier. Southampton and now Wolves tried that and just go down the plughole to the Championship.

The problem with Elliot is if he’s played for Liverpool and Villa already this season as can’t play for 3 different clubs in the same season.

If we are going to get a lightweight, skilful player who comes from a top team but is not getting playing time, then Rico Lewis, on loan, might be a better option. He could also cover for Munoz. But that sort of player hasn't fared well here
