Six months suspended no compo.
Judge Menary continues saying Barton is "not a man of previous good character".

He notes Barton has previous convictions for violence, but does not find them particularly relevant.

I thought that compensation was not available to the Judge as provided for in the sentencing guidelines?

Judge Andrew Menary tells the court he will not be awarding compensation to any of the complainants in this case.Barton was also ordered to pay the prosecution's costs of £23,419.80.

Well a local jury in Liverpool found him guilty, not the judge.
He is 100% arsehole and a convicted violent offender. He likes to bully and intimidate weaker people, always has.
He comes from a bad family. His cousin Michael Barton murdered the black kid in an unprovoked rascist attack.
Judge done him a favour.

it all seems carefully planned ? Barton would get much more publicity than you or me ? so Barton got paraded across the news like a Goldstein. 1984

Well, Goldstein gave the women a payment for giving him a golden handshake.

What Barton said,..."nonce" etc, he wouldn't be able to say on on TV. However , it was a social media post. I've seen stuff get bad on HOL and the BBS where people are name-called, and it sometimes gets a verbal warning from the MODs. And the occasional yellow.
This ruling kind of sets a precedent for all sorts of cases to be brought to court for comments made on social media.

Are you saying our mods put on red outfits like Father Xmas and wear pomandered wigs whilst frowning and hand out judgements.

Did Barton tweet it in French? Was he wearing onions and garlic round his neck with a red hanky there and a blue and white hooped top?

Jeremy Vine is an annoying liberal waste of time so I can understand anyone losing it with him.

What did he say? Is it true?
He said that the commentators were the punditry equivalent of Fred and Rose West and that Vine was a slang word used for paedophile.
I watched the judge's summing up and it was stated as racially aggravated. I failed to see why but maybe missed something. That Eni Aluko is black was the only reason I could see. I couldn't see any racism.
I also have to state I thought a prison sentence is ludicrous, however much I dislike Barton.
As far as I'm concerned, it didn't seem at the high end of abuse to me. Pretty sure I get called worse all the time and couldn't care less. Although that may depend on happy drunk or annoyed drunk at the time.

Remember, according to our justice system it is a more serious offence to call someone a 'Nonce', then to be an actual Nonce.

Make it make sense.
Judges are very limited as to the sentences they can hand down,I wasn't at either trial so will reserve judgement and trust the judge.

Judge said no compo i do not know his thinking.
From the BBC:

Jurors were told in June 2024 Mr Barton agreed to pay Mr Vine £75,000 damages for defamation and harassment, together with his legal costs, as both parties settled in the civil action.
In a further settlement between both parties Mr Barton paid Mr Vine £35,000 damages and legal costs over similar matters.

I can't stand Vine and a lot of people share that opinion.

However, I don't think you should be calling people peado slang terms.....I could see a case for libel over something that bad......That's more than just offending someone.

Most female football presenters are just a downgrade from what we had.....I think they jumped on the chance to take him down.

I agree with most of Barton's views that he expressed but just not in the say he sometimes chooses to express them.
