US Politics

There's a difference though. I'll laugh at it. You'll be annoyed. Presidents are just figureheads. When Trump has gone the world will just carry on as before. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Of course I laugh at it! It doesn’t annoy me at all. I think it’s pathetic but also such an obvious example of the way organisations and other governments feel they must behave.

It’s that necessity that’s the concern. Having the most powerful man in the world seeking, and being given, Tribute, is not healthy. No anger. Just a pressing need for change.

And Hitler is the only yardstick rather than with Stalin or Pol Pot.
Not true. Hitler though is the one closest to home. The one we fought against. The one who led the country we have historical ties with. A country we helped to reorganise after their defeat and turn into a well functioning democracy. One of the things that always impresses me whenever I spend time with German people is just how much they treasure their democracy, alongside their command of English. The education system must be great. The work ethic certainly is. They wouldn’t want even an echo of Hitler back. Unlike others elsewhere. Yes, I am aware of the AfD. That’s another subject though.

There was an interesting article in a recent edition of the Spectator by a teacher in Germany entitled "Dumm und dümmer: the slow death of Germany's education system". It describes the accelerating plummeting of academic standards.

Sure. Knock yourself out with it.

Another elderly USA president, very different personalities, but sharing the confused fear of an ageing white man confronted by, and not understanding, a changing world.
