If you're expecting a like for like Eze replacement, you're being completely unrealistic and you're always gonna be disappointed.

He's a 23 year old with potential, who cost 20 odd million, Eze is the finished product, in his prime who arsenal paid 70 million for.

Stop the hate, get behind him and hopefully he will continue to develop and become a top player for us.

I do not believe that 'Hate' enters the equation.
To many observers he has been disappointing and flatters to deceive.
It is imperative for us that his performances improve.

Some observers thought after a few games that Ollie's stint at Palace won't be long, if I remember correctly, but I may be wrong.

He's been pretty much what I'd expect of a player of his calibre, young, promising, still to reach his potential. He's still adapting to a new squad, new manager, new country.

A direct replacement for Eze, you would have to be extremely lucky or spend 70 million and still be extremely lucky.

Just not strong enough at the moment and very petty. Plus he doesn’t look likely to score and he’s understanding with Mateta and Sarr is lacking. A number of times tonight he misplaced passes. A spell coming off the bench may help?

I will add, possibly a new position as well.
At Villarreal last season he played as a touchline hugging right-winger.
He appears very much a work in progress.

For me ‘flatters to deceive’ is an apt description.
The fact that he plays for a very good Spain team and that Glasner selects him indicates that he must be a talented player.
Does he suit our way of playing and the role which he has been given though?

I wasn’t expecting another Eze.
After all Pino was a third of the price, is younger than Eze and new to the Premier League.
I acknowledge it’s early days too, but I do have concerns.

While a game competitor, he is continually outmuscled and can’t get away from defenders even when he displays good footwork.
This means moves down our left side often peter out.
He makes clever runs in behind defenders, but our style of play and type of player means that only Wharton is likely to find him with a pass.
He looks like he will be the scorer of the occasional spectacular goal ( when given time and space) as opposed to a regular contributor to the goal tally.

In my the role in which he features in the front 3 requires more pace , thrust and power.
He did well v Wolves, when he was given time and space, but how many Premier League clubs will afford him this much time and space?
I hope I’m wrong and the occasional flickers of talent that he displays become a consistent feature and that he can contribute the goals and assists from that position that we need.

Some exceedingly insightful and sagacious contributions to the debate.

For me, the big thing is his finishing. If he can show more conviction and confidence in his shooting then he'll be getting double figures a season as he is constantly getting into good positions and finding space. Eze was forgiven a lot because he was a match-winner like Zaha. He used to constantly give the ball away in dangerous positions and misplace passes, but when you needed someone to find that moment of magic, he was the man, and all else was forgiven. Pino seems to work harder, but we need more end product. Personally, I think it will come, and we'll have another gem on our hands, but maybe after Eze and Olise we need to temper our expectations a bit.

After 5 full seasons at Villarreal he had only scored 17 La Liga goals, accordingly I was not expecting a goal scoring midfielder.
I have since been informed that he played mainly as a right-winger at Villarreal last season.
Pino has technical ability, he finds space and has vision but he has never been a player to really hit the back of the net.

Since Glasner has been Manager we have bought or loaned Nketiah, Sarr, Kamada, Esse, Pino and Uche(loan to buy), 6 attacking players, for about 80m, 105k a week for Kamada, although he is not solely responsible for them transfers, he will have had a major input, only Sarr has been a major success, a poor return for the money.

I remember when I first see Ian Wright striding out on the pitch for us, I thought, too skinny and lightweight, he won’t last long 🤣
Ian Wright came to us from Non-League football, accordingly not a great deal was expected of him initially. He was also thrust into the team in the old Second Division so he had time to develop away from the rigours and the challenges of the top division.

Eze had 20 goals in 106 appearances when he joined, versus Pino's 17 goals in 134 appearances. Not a huge difference, plus Eze was playing in the second tier. Also, Eze only got 4 PL goals in his first season with us. It wasn't until his third season with us that the goals started to come with greater frequency. It's also probably no coincidence that his highest goal tallies came when Olise was with us delivering some chances on a plate.

Pino clearly has great technique, it's now just whether he can make the step up and deliver goals and assists on a frequent basis. He's done ok so far and we're only a third of the way into season. Maybe it's best to reassess in May. There was a lot of criticism of Sarr at this stage last season and he's proven to be an astute signing. If Pino didn't work out we'd likely get our money back at least because £20 million for a 23-year-old full Spain international is pretty cheap by today's standards.

I'd hope a spanish international would be of a higher quality than hes displayed so far.
