Wolves vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Decent performance, great result.

Fair play to Glasner, I was calling for more physical subs on the hour as we were getting bullied early in the 2nd half but he did the opposite, bringing Eddie on for JP, and we scored two in nine minutes.

Big step forward for Yeremy and great to see him acknolwedge the crowd singing his song. Richards was excellent again.

This is becoming ridiculous.

Having supported the club for over half a century all this 'winning,' nonsense is just getting tedious.

What was wrong with years of underachieving, grasping and enjoying the odd crumb of success, swapping war stories about away games at Grimsby in rain.

We are just getting too big for our boots. Trophy's international players that play for the bigger nations we have actually heard of and European football on a Thursday no less.

What was wrong with those old values we held so preciously?

I told them having a foreigner in the dugout would be trouble.

We’ve fallen away from our values of striving for mediocrity whilst never being far from complete ruin.

I warned them, but they did not listen.

You didn't watch the game then?
Yes, bits of it as streaming allowed.
Clinton Morrison on Sky said the first half was the worst he'd seen in the Premier League and was scathing of Mateta's miss, and none too complimentary about Sarr either.
It was notable that our two goals came from 'non strikers'

Agreed. Sick of it. Club never consulted fans about whether we wanted games on Thursdays and now it's looking like we might have it again next season. Do they care about clashing with Curry Club at Wetherspoons? Do they f***.

Plus we keep signing all these big time Charlies with international responsibilities and last summer the squad was tired after having players in the final of Copa America, the Euros and the Olympics. Now we have a Spain international as well so it's going to get worse.

It's a pisstake. I miss the days of Shefki Kuqi.

Bit lucky we were playing Wolves. Richards and Guehi were under par. Some good first time passing to find Kamada and Pino in space but they did not make the most of it. Wharton and Munoz had arguably their best games this season. The former actually had a good shot blocked that led to the latter's goal.

Pino looked delighted to have scored. Although well struck, it was in the middle of the goal and went right over Johnstone's hand. I would have been disappointed if Henderson had conceded. As a Spain regular, you would expect him to be our best player. Let us hope there is more to come. Similar players bought at a higher cost like Reijnders, Simons and Wirtz have struggled more

I note there's a bit of criticism creeping in for Mateta on these boards.
Personally I didn't think his chance today was a sitter.
The keeper did well and came out and narrowed the angle.
I've just watched Haaland miss a one on one v Newcastle and £65 million Woltenmade miss a hat trick in the same game.
I recall Nketiah missing a few last season where he has hit the ball straight at the keeper.
The fact is there are not that many clinical finishers around.
The last assured one on one finishers I've seen in our league are Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler, with their so called ice running through their veins.
Kane, Aguero, Henry, Defoe and Haaland all have been great goalscorers, but they still missed their fair share of chances.
Mateta has arguably been our best goalscorer at this level and I think deserves the benefit of the doubt.

It was a clear opportunity whereby it's just him, the ball, the keeper, and with time and space enough to make a decision, and therein lies the problem, he's good at the instinctive stuff but with a bit of time on his hands he lacks the composure to do what, ostensibly, he's there to do.

Guehi and Wharton Munoz absolute mustard today. As someone else has said, Mateta and Sarr out of form at the moment which is a worry given they’re our two most likely to score.

Not even being my usual anti Kamada self when I say he was absolutely trash today. Like the Kamada of old. Losing possession. Misplaced passes. Face like a box of frogs all game. With Hughes on the bench I’m seriously starting to wonder if he has dodgy photos of Glasner.

We’ve fallen from glorious swallow dives to pathetic corner flag kicking.

Shameful.

Why are people moaning about our striker when we are lucky to have him! Lucky if he extends his contract. He's much more than just a goalscorer anyway....real quality up front.

For feck's sake it's not like we can afford Messi is it.

Totally unrealistic.....Strikers will miss chances.....I've seen the best miss howlers and keepers have a right to make chances difficult.

Be happy we are where we are in the league.

We'll be lucky to get another striker with better stats than these, even if he does miss some chancesScreenshot_20251122_192627_Chrome.webp

Yes, all well and good. We have a player, Wharton, who is capable of threading a defence splitting pass in behind for an attacker to run onto, in this case it's either Sarr or Mateta. In Mateta's case finishing from this position is one area where he can improve, I doubt anyone can disagree. All the other stuff he does is fine and an asset to the team.

Did you complain about AJ he was hopeless at 1 on 1 , if he took 2 touches you knew he would miss , Mateta is the same better at one touch shot , scored to many goals to complain about him
