of course its not really about the money. I you had somebody running around town, badmouthing you, you would want to shut them up too.
The BBC have had a lack of accountability for decades. Hopefully now the chickens have come home to roost. Its ironic that the power to end them came from abroad. I reckoned there would be an anti BBC coup within the UK.

When that person is Trump, who sees any criticism as bad mouthing, then every objective broadcaster has a duty to be fearless and speak the truth.

Trump intimidation of anyone who opposes him has gone well beyond the point when he ought just be placated or ignored. Good people everywhere must stand up and say no more.

They are not wholly wrong. The BBC does have a liberal left bias which is wrong and needs addressing. John Humphreys spent 33 years working for them, left and wrote a book critical of them for this very reason.

But correct the wrong. Don't end the entity. Too much like book burning for my liking. And what will it leave?

My concern is that the most reliable broadcaster will be eg GB News. A company that stands proudly beside it's right wing bias; but you only have to look up this thread to see that folk genuinely rate it as impartial.

I suppose if you consume anything long enough it becomes a normal to you. I am as guilty as anyone given i get my news from R4.

John Humphreys was on Radio 4 this morning defending the BBC and in particular Radio 4 as being vital for our democracy. He may be right wing himself but he sees how important the BBC is.

Possibly. But what will be admissable will be any other utterance by Trump that may provide a context that supports the editorial angle of the programme.

We accept we misrepresented that speech but not his message.

I have never said GB News is impartial, what I have continually said is that
, they always have both sides of the political divide in any discussion and all parties have the same airtime. No bullying whatsoever, despite opinions to the contrary on here

You must surely see the gap in this argument here.

I think GBNews made plain at the start that it came into being because there was a large gap in the market. It's been attacked since it started and the damaging element of those attacks has been at its revenue base. It also has a very left wing OfCom(muists) sniffing around it all the time.....restricting how it operates when it's a private company.

In these regards it gets treated far more harshly than the BBC.....Which gets chucked over three billion a year and can't even stick to its core principles.

Being liberal is fine......the problem is when you receive a licence fee from the population to be impartial....a significant segment of the country are always going to be right wing.....well that means that the organisation isn't fit for purpose.

When was the last time I saw a masculine straight right wing white male on the BBC?.....It's so rare it practically never happens, but it's at least twenty percent of the population.....In my view most of the BBC look down their nose at that and worst a fair amount of them regard it as evil.

Rather tellingly GBNews do not receive a licence fee.

The BBC won't correct itself, it had that chance in the 90s and it spurred the chance.

The left are too narcissistic to admit the real problems at the BBC and would rather burn it too the ground.

So now not only does the BBC have a left wing bias but the regulator, Ofcom, does too!

Only someone who is too far to the right to even realise how ridiculous such a claim is would ever even think it.

And an orchestrated attack and bring down the BBC. Fascinating to imagine what's gone on behind the scenes to bring this attack to fruition considering the programme was originally shown in October 24, which brought no reaction from Trump, The Telegraph, or the BBC haters.

I am one on here who has been highly critical of the BBC on many subjects. However, not once have I said I hated them. In fact we spend most evenings binge watching many of their box sets, many of which are very good. Some dramas are well made, despite the DEI involvement.
Having said that, there really is no excuse for a National Broadcaster to have behaved the way they have on this subject and their coverage of Gaza and Trans issues. Personally I would like the licence fee to be cancelled and make the BBC become an independent entity, then they can broadcast what they like in anyway they like, just not making me pay for it.

Just a reminder here....the BBC are not the victim here. They are the ones who lied about President Trump who is the victim of an atrocious attack of lies and misinformation designed to interfere with an election.

I don't hide my dislike of an organisation that forces me to pay for something I don't want. I don't read the Guardian or watch GB News and frankly I don't care what they say.

But all the while the BBC forces me to pay I will speak out.

Behind the scenes the BBC has been quietly lobbying the government to replace the licence fee because:

1. It is expensive to collect
2. Each year they lose 200-300 thousand licence payers for various reasons. They know that soon it will become a Tsunami and like the poll tax unenforceable.
3. Bad publicity from taking non payers to court (mostly the poor and female).

What they really want is a tax levied on Broadband which the broadband providers will collect on their behalf.

I suspect the government is sympathetic to this but the BBC is not helping them with these "errors" and the government has it's own problems so does it really want a big fight over this? They know that Farage will make a big deal out of any change that includes compulsion so playing right into his hands.

Spot on. This line of attack from the Establishment is that the British People will somehow be up in arms because of Trump suing their precious BBS. Pre-Brexit maybe but not now. People would gladly be free of the licence fee and suspect many have little love left for it.
