Awful awful awful. Happening way too often now and people are starting to shrug their shoulders when they hear it.
 
its turning very nasty at CityWest tonight. And i fear this will be different to the riots after the Parnell Street children stabbings.
Feels like 1989 in the Balkans or 1968 in N.I.

I was in Dublin about 3 months ago and you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. This was always on the cards

imagine Palace were electing a new manager next year. And the ballot offered only Alan Pardew or Frank de Boer. With Big Sam Allardyce having been removed due to a scandal.

and of course all the Eagles wanted Glasner. But alas he didnt get enough support from the existing Suits in the boardroom, so his name is not on the Ballot.

The irish Presidential election broke all records for a low turnout. It offered either
- a Leftie with some dubious history
or
- a Government appointee insider...heather Humphreys, not a strong candidate.

Almost nobody voted for the Government appointee...Heather Humphreys. The level of protest-votes was also record breaking. 'spoil your ballot' was a campaign that sent a clear feckoff to our Politicians.

The Leftie won.....Catherine Connolly, but only because there was no real alternative. She will now become President with a record breaking Low Tally of votes. Its kinda like somebody becoming class monitor cos there was no other real opposition.

The Government are hurt by this.....good. The public are angry they didnt get a proper choice. This new Lady is a bit of a 'RA head and hates the Brits - she is friendly with Sinn Fein.
Its lose-lose all around. Palestine flags a go go.

However, the President of Ireland is only a titular job. Fairly similar to the UK monarch......zero Political power and a job eating cake, greeting foreign dignitaries, attending sporting events, and smiling for the cameras. A Head of State whose job is easier than than operating a coffee-machine. So long as you dont go rogue, like Lineker, and start mouthing off about everything.....shutup and eat the cake.

Yesterday's election is why even though I am a Republican I would keep our monarchy.

It's supposed to be ceremonial, a figure head. Somebody that the nation turns to in times of national crisis (or joy).

It's not supposed to be a divisive political leader who will opine on the political events of the day.

At least Charles and his mum had the good sense to keep trap shut.

there is more to Politics than wealth-creation. The town of Dundrum, Co Tipperary got more asylum seekers than its total previous population. So you will forget about your nice house and nice car. You are furious your daughters cannot safely walk the streets.


Meanwhile, our new President will have an ideology very similar to Sadiq Khan....of course , apart from her overt hostility toward the Brits.
