Glasner is a Glazier

I was a bit concerned when at the press conference earlier Glasner referred to the fact that he and Parish were working together on the Final Solution.
No need for alarm, it emerged that they were talking about the future direction of the club and Glasner's possible role in it.
I'm optimistic a contract extension could be agreed. OG has made it clear he wont be rushed. Thats fine. Its a big next move in his career. He's not IMO the kind of guy to break a contract either. I think if he signs he'll see it out regardless of who comes calling afterwards.
Reading between the lines I think Parish is trying to be honest and saying look, we'll never be in a position to spend £100m on one player but with the current recruitment model we use we can really build something big and (if we only sell one player for big money each year) we can keep the team together.
Its really a case of whether Glasner believes he can achieve want he wants to in that environment.
He's been honest in saying he is happy at Palace, has a great relationship with Parish, the squad etc. I read a while back he has now moved his family over (if true very encouraging).

Without jumping the gun and not knowing any more than anyone else I'd say it currently all looks quite positive.

I think hes playing a clever game, would absolutely love him to sign an extension, im not convinced! Either way lets enjoy the party while it's happening!
I’m with you, we know he’s going to leave eventually, sooner rather than later probably, they all do, managers and players, we’ve just got to carry on enjoying this moment in time while it lasts

Listening to salako on sky he stated quite obviously if we want to significantly progress we have to stop being known as a selling club. I understand our financial situation but we cannot expect OG to continue each year building us up to have it dismantled so will have to move on To progress his career

I mean we're not really a selling club, other than Eze, Olise, Anderson & Wan Bissaka...I can't think of too many others that we've sold! & Unless we get significant investment, I dont think we'll change (imo not a bad thing) weve metaphorically married a supermodel and are hugely punching above our weight & I don't think its a bad thing!

Some might express the opinion that the current standing will not be sustained. I suspect Glasner will depart at the end of the season, Guehi will of course be at 'Pastures new' and perhaps Wharton will also be plying his trade at another club.
Next season could provide significant challenges.

All clubs are selling clubs.

The reason we attract young players is the career route, go to Palace do well and then a top 6 club will bid for you. If we stop selling, those players wont come. it's why they sign for us unlike West Ham where you may get more wages but your career dies. I'm gutted to say this but Brighton fans will say then same about their club selling to Chelsea etc.

It's not about selling our players but about the clubs that those players want to leave us for.

None of our quality players over the last few years have been sold to West Ham or Sunderland or Ipswich etc. It's Bayern Munich and Arsenal with Guehi being linked with every world class club at the moment. That is not bad company.

Also none of our players have left for money as far as I can tell. Wilf was offered more to stay than Gala, but wanted Champions League again another high benchmark.

None of us want our best players to go but if they do a top 6 club is no disgrace.

We are 'Birds on the same twig' on this matter.

I will add that acquiring players who then progress to top clubs is 'Proof positive' that our recruitment has been exemplary.

So, metaphorically, we are the Peter Crouch of the Prem.......😆

Unless someone's paying 100 million, Wharton's not going. If they are then bye, bye.

I suppose whatever happens from now, no-one can take away those cups, great memories and I can die happy now because we won the fa cup 😎😃

Everyone is a selling club. Even at the top of the food chain. If the player wants to move and the money is big that club will sell.
I remember how hilarious it was years ago when Barca came calling for Suarez. 'We're Liverpool' was the big message put out. 'We dont sell our best players, no one bullies us!' We all saw what happened there a few days later.

Eze and Olise were out of the club's hands and tbf we'd have been holding them back if we'd tried to stop them leaving anyway.
As for the other two I dont think anyone would look at how their careers have gone since they left and feel we got a bad deal. Andersen in particular. Sold for £30m, only used just over half that money to buy his replacement (Lacroix) who is younger and better!

Glasner leaving I would say is about 50/50 right now (or maybe even 60/40 in our favour)
Wharton leaving in the summer? No chance

Let’s hope we haven’t shot our load too quick then with all the excitement 🤦

I agree it would take a silly bid, but he's so good I think it might happen - he's a real unicorn in English football - someone will pay the premium.

For Wharton to sign another contract then obviously he feels that he holds the cards.

That means he's going to want to go to his preferred club when the offer comes in.

So personally as much as we'd like to see offers of 100 million and so on I very much doubt he'd allow that within a new contract.....I've heard 70 million from his side. Well on a football site, so who knows what's true....I was tripped up on Dan Casey the other day.

Like everyone else we know we need top dollar, so to speak, because he's an star and we know he's going.

The question is how does the club best navigate this given the motivations of other parties, most notably Wharton himself.

The difference here is that there isn’t necessarily a pressing need for Wharton to sign a new deal - his current one runs until June 29, so we’re still a good way from that expiry date starting to eat into his transfer fee - and there’s no release clause as there was with Olise and Eze.

The Declan Rice transfer is the benchmark for Wharton, and I think it will be similar money.

We never seem to have our ship come in.

Always something holding us back.
