Cases like Lucy Connolly got some publicity, but there are dozens of equally ridiculous cases occurring daily, across the political divide

Not just the UK. It seems to be across most of the Decadent West. Looks like the last days of Rome. Dont bother calling the cops when you hear a burglar rummaging in your garage ?

Well perhaps the west has grown too complacent.

We all grew up hearing how tyrannies rise up and operate in far away places, or in times gone by.

And we the west has always smugly told itself "That couldn't happen here" or "Never again", as if we are somehow better or superior. But we're not, we might be even worse.

We were also trained to watch for these things emerging from political extremes - the far right or extreme left.

No one warned us that they could emerge from a cosy liberal elite, or that our cosy liberal media, churches and governing bodies would all look the other way.

I don't disagree - not in the name of this cozy liberal!

However, wait till Reform get in. No less doors being kicked down, but this time perhaps you lot on the right will be more content with the bad-but-different reasons why.

Well, that's going to happen anyway, left or right.

The worse the economics gets the more authoritarian the government will be.

A case of history repeating.

Perhaps we can say that neo/social liberalism failed.....a bit of an understatement.

Now we get the results of that drawn out.....and only accelerating when welfare fails.

'You lot on the right'? Who said I was right?

The original post was concerned with the treatment of ordinary people across the board who have legitimate concerns, be it genocide in Palestine or crime in UK. Those people may be left or right, (although I think those terms are very 20th century and now obsolete). The point being that people are being punished even though they haven't committed any crimes, just expressed a view.

I am not sure that Reform will be kicking down doors for social media posts, we'll probably find out in a few years. Although they will obviously crack down more on illegal immigration, etc.
 
Far too few Police and the ones we have are targeting and attempting to eradicate free speech due to political interference and appointments of left-leaning Police commissioners ..
Police and Judges have become an over zealous crackdown tool of the State under Labour .

Expect a knock at the door sometime in the future if you don’t become a sheep to the establishment .

Correct. We can already see Trump behaving the same as the tyrannical Left. Two cheeks of the same @r.se.
And while i like Trump cos he is a thorn in the side of annoying Lefties, i recognise that he is an utter lunatic. When any country polarises into extremes...its always bad. 1930s Spain or Germany.....both Left AND Right were monstrous.

And both political extremes were feeding votes to each other. Small Farmers who would have had zero time for General Franco, they all rallied to his support when the commies threatened to 'collectivize' their farms.

In fairness this was going on under the Tories as well. It all dates back to Blair's Human Rights act and the "protected groups, and hate crime laws". The Tories had 14 years to do something about it and turned a blind eye.

To some there is an assumption that the act is sacred and the only alternative is abolition and dictatorship. That is simply not true. When Parliament passed it they chose not to include freedom of speech (US 1st amendment), I expect there are many more examples in the details.

So if Parliament had the will it could add Freedom of speech it could also put restrictions on foreign born people using the act (asylum seekers). There is a lot of wiggle room without having to scrap the whole thing.

Labour are in the dock because they are the government but we should not forget the Tories were happy to go along with it.

What total tosh!

They apply the law. They don’t make it. Laws that we, via our elected representatives, have determined are necessary.

You can campaign for change and decide that Reform will deliver it, but you ought not blame the public servants who try to do their jobs. That’s what Trump is doing and we are surely better than that?

Their application of the law is contingent upon their interpretation of it.
Trump is the elected representative of the American people so presumably he gets a free pass as well.
 
Anyone else seen that clip of the two female coppers (one of them really fit) that turn up at a house asking the mum to hand over her daughter's phone cos the girl read a post on it.

they ask the mum not to film it (when she is allowed to) and threaten her with all sorts including dragging them down the station!!

So we have enough Police in your opinion ?
Police and judges interpretation of the laws are being politically influenced .
Throughout history there have been innocent people prosecuted because of the above .
 
I'm hearing that George Galloway has been arrested with his wife and detained at a Sussex Airport.

Just what the feck is going on in this country?
