It will frighten women unnecessarily from taking a well understood pain relief that there is absolutely no clinical evidence for any doubt about.

I don't think what Kimmel said was that bad so a suspension I think was fair enough. However he is not yet out of the woods as 2 major affiliates are still refusing to show him.

American TV is a franchise, ABC / Disney maybe the main broadcaster, but across America hundreds of local TV stations run by affiliates also take the show and pay handsomely to do so. Oprah Winfrey became a billionaire because she owned the rights to her own show and it made her a fortune.

It's not clear if the 2 main affiliates which accounts for 40% of the market have a moral objection or if they are trying to renegotiate the deal. Possibly it is both, his figures have been sliding so why should they pay top dollar?

Anyway the Hollyweird stars sooo concerned about freedom of speech will be happy.

It doesn’t claim that the cause of autism has been found and is the use of paracetamol in pregnancy. Which is the message being conveyed by Kennedy and Trump.

It says it has great benefits in pain relief but that as some connections have been flagged that suggest overuse might raise the risk of autism, care should be taken to ensure that the minimum dosage needed to be effective is taken.

Kimmel is a loser ratings wise as are many of the late night...supposedly comedy shows. However I was also troubled by the free speech aspect of this. While also knowing that the left only care about free speech for themselves.

I do think the insensitivity of what he was saying is too soon for half of America to hear......and also pretty ropey regarding the truth.

I'm glad the rich comedian (who is losing money for his employer) is getting his show back.....maybe being taken off the air for a show or two is a reasonable outcome.

But I've always said that comedians (and you and me) should be allowed to say pretty much what they like, left or right, if your society is free (excepting libel and calls to violence)......that doesn't mean that they are free of criticism.

Here It's been the left who have changed the game on this and are turning up at doorsteps to intimidate and arrest people......So maybe in the US this is a wake up call for a defence of free speech.

I took a call at about this time yesterday from the flatmate of one of my tenants. He told me he had died during the night. He was only 40, was a recovering addict but still a drinker. He was also obese. He had been off work for some weeks following an operation on an injured arm and, apparently, had been suffering severe toothache in recent days. For which he had been overdosing on paracetamol.

I obviously don’t know the cause of death, nor will anyone until after the pm, but the news about the overdosing raised my eyebrows.

Works both ways. All those on the right who attacked Kimmel have also attacked cancel culture. The irony. Hypocrisy and hurty words from both sides.

As you say (and as Trump said) I suspect free speech is not being curtailed by politicians in some chilling effect, but by ratings, sponsorship and commerce.

Trump should not have capitalized on it though. It gives the impression that he had something to do with it. With still a great deal of political capital on his side, this is the sort of thing that wakes the sleepy hitherto apathetic liberal other half of the country.

It's not my headline: it's from the Harvard School of Public Health. Maybe they're in the clickbait business after undertaking the valuable research that confirmed overdosing on something can have a deleterious effect.
