I would not!

I would have said that at least he tried. Just as when, during the Covid crisis, he was persuaded to try to lead the whole nation rather than follow his instincts and divide it.

I am not attempting to politicise the event. It was unarguably and indefensibly political. I am just pointing that out.

As I have said here many times I don’t hate Trump. I feel sorry for him. He must be incredibly lonely. I am no psychiatrist but those who are have often opined he is unwell. I hate his divisive politics. His stupid attitude towards the “left” and his open hatred of anyone who doesn’t agree with him, let alone criticises him, is being matched by your own. It’s naive, and ridiculous.

Erika Kirk has indeed shown dignity. So too did her late husband. Unfortunately though his politics didn’t. They were founded in the attitudes of the fundamentalist branch of evangelical Christianity known as Christian Nationalism. Something that rejects the separation of Church and State which the USA is founded upon. Christian Nationalism is both a religious and political movement that sees no boundaries between both. I am not alone in seeing it as dangerous:-

I don’t hate these people. I just think they are wrong. They are free to live their own lives in whichever way they wish but must respect their Constitution and not attempt to interfere in the lives of others.

It seems to me there are more people making diagnoses they are completely unqualified to make.

We should give thanks that they are just making them in a closed echo chamber where no one that matters can hear them. If it makes their own disorders a little less painful it’s all to the good.

Doubt his show would be successful here - anyone who wants to watch uninterrupted Trump bashing already has Bill Maher who is more balanced in his approach.

I noticed, by the way, that not only was the Utah Governor, Spencer Cox not on the list of speakers at the Kirk “memorial” he wasn’t even there. In his own State! Don’t you think that’s very strange? And very, very disturbing. He calls for peace and reconciliation but the organisers don’t want that to be heard. They only want hatred and division.
