i did not think we were that bad its a team game half the team were strangers, and the ref seemed to let millwall get away with a lot fouls ,the big plus was the goalie and r.canvot his passing and composure on the ball was top notch 🙂

Not too many pluses in the performance but I thought Canvot looked comfortable, maybe a little risky when deciding to beat the attacker and bring the ball out but to be fair he did it well. Benitez looks a bargain and will keep Henderson on his toes. Uche did pretty well and looks a decent buy. Yeremy will improve. His passing wasn’t great tonight but that was true of most of them. In the PL he’d have had a few free kicks but the championship ref decided to let them get stuck in. Kamada was a bit off with his passing but looks class in every other aspect of his play.
Glasner said JP told him he was ready to play but he looked like he needs a rest.

Honestly don't think it was any worse than a group of players across the game. The entire midfield and attack were guilty of constantly losing possession and misplacing passes. Think it's unfair to treat a 20 year so harshly considering the time afforded to others.

Two positives for me tonight was that Canvot looks assured and Bentinez is a very good backup.

I really want it to work out for him however…..
Game rusty is fine, a lack of urgency and not paying attention on multiple occasions is a shame when it’s your big chance.

I didn’t want to share this, perhaps it’s time. First game he scores and celebrates like he scored the winner when we are 2-1 down. Against Millwall last season he celebrated in front of their fans for Nketiahs goal. I know I know but it’s the club that gave him his dream and so soon after leaving them.
He didn’t come from famous academies like Olise or Eze so his development is no doubt different.
I do wonder if that lack of professionalism is why we have kept him close. He has raw talent but the club hope being around top professionals will impact him to polish his game.
It takes a strong mentality at the top, that’s why Devenny with less flair is making it. It’s why Eze and Olise bounced back from being dropped to the lower leagues.
Wharton has a strong mentally.
We have heard about and seen many talents fail due to mindset, With Esse I strongly feel a lot of time will be needed to see if he can find that tiger, that inner strength

Mateta looks knackered.. I dont know if its just me but I've found he's been getting jostled off the ball quite easily the last few games which is unusual.

Still find it surprising we didn't get another striker in during the window.

I agree, doesn’t hold the ball up as well as he used to and doesn’t seem as keen to win headers as well.I think that assault by the Wall keeper has affected his bravery to put his head in where it hurts.

We always seem to struggle against lower teams but we got the result and that was the main thing.

I thought a draw was a fair result over 90 minutes, but our penalties were atrocious. Quite proud of our youngsters tonight. 6 of them started. One was a debut and the others rarely start for the first team, if ever. We have 7 or 8 first team regulars out so I thought we done ourselves proud over all.

If OG has his doubts then he shouldn't have started Esse, just stick him on in the second half. Not a fan of pulling him off at half time like that, after subbing him on then off against LFC. Killed his confidence.

Well, that was a bit frustrating all around - but the team is disjointed and at some time it should gel. I made a pact with my better half that we can open up a nice champers this season whenever we win a game - tonight (Canada time) its 10 buck chuck plonk in the spirit of the performance - I just can't bring myself to celebrate that performance with any bubbly!

As per Crazy Eagle's post above, it now becomes a real confidence issue with the young Padawan - a loan spell come January might be in the offing, "cause he has raw talent, but trying too hard and I'm sure that being subbed as a sub, must weigh heavily because of the public scrutiny - it might end up defining his resolve and character, or not, as we shall see?

Must be frustrating to be a Goalkeeper. Incredibly hard to get in front of an established number 1 and it’s not like Deano gets puffed out after 60 minutes and needs a sub.

He hasn’t put a foot (or hand) wrong, saved penalties and definitely won’t start the next game. He will get League Cup and FA Cup games up to a point, maybe even make some massively important saves along the way and yet has no chance of playing the semi or finals of those competitions if we got there.

Yes, being a Prem player on Prem wages certainly eases the pain but it’s got to the worst position in football - backup Goalie.

You’re right. I should take his place at 50,000 a week. I’d feel really bad just practicing and not playing.

Um, okay. Calm down sunshine. My eyes are firmly wide open. And you'll find 90% of Palace fans are on the same page. It's great Daichi is improving. But to be fair, he couldn't have got much worse than the first half of last season.

I thought it was an odd choice to start Esse this game. If anybody out there knows how to exploit his weaknesses it's the team where he just spent eleven years playing.

And somehow I think OG knows that. Kinda feels like he just doesn't like him and is happy to sabotage him.
