Died in his sleep aged 89.
He leaves an outstanding movie legacy and made some cracking films in later life including The Old Man and The Gun which we watched just the other day.
RIP Sundance.
 
RIP Robert. Loved Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. True or not, it became the truth.
The Old Man and the Gun a great film in old age. Will be missed. Pretty sure he had a great life.

Lovely, post-Watergate conspiracy stuff...

On which, All the President's Men was a genuine classic.

As was The Candidate. "What do we do now..?"
 
One of my favourite actors. Someone who seems to have lived life to the full and contributed enormously to the film industry in front of and away from the camera.

I find it interesting how Brad Pitt seems to have evolved into a modern day version of him. The movie Spy Game with them both in was a slick political thriller I could watch every week and not get bored of; mainly because of Redford's performance.

The Last Castle is another fantastic movie.

Made some very good movies. RIP

Perhaps we should start another thread, people in showbiz who have leached off other careers. I hadn't thought about the Brad Pitt comparison but I think you are right.

Jerry Lewis / Adam Sandler
Cary Grant / George Hamilton and Hugh Grant
Bob Hope / Kelsey Grammar
 
Not to take away from his talent but it must be said that he and Paul Newman as Butch and Sundance were two incredibly good looking men.

They became good friends after making that film and Redford was indebted to Newman for insisting he was given the role of Sundance.

Both were practical jokers and on Newman's 50th birthday, Redford sent him a wrecked Porsche (Newman's favourite car) wrapped in a giant red bow. Newman had it crushed and sent back to him, after which Redford called a sculptor he knew to transform the warped metal into a garden ornament and had it placed in Newman’s garden. “And to this day,” Redford said. “Neither Paul nor I ever spoke about it.”

I thought that was a good story and said a lot about both men.
