Trump State Visit

Liberal leader, Sir Ed Davey, is boycotting the state dinner for the US President. Does Davey seriously think that Trump has heard of him? Does he think it will make a jot of difference? Sir Vince Cable did the same during the state visit by Trump – does he think that brought about Trump’s defeat at the following US Presidential Election?
Meanwhile, Liberal leaders didn’t seem to be so fussy about who they dined with in the relatively recent past: Vladimir Putin, Robert Mugabe, and three Chinese presidents. David Steel dined with Romanain tyrant, Nicolae Ceausescu and even presented him with a puppy named Gladstone - apparently Nicolae gave him the honorary rank of colonel (the dog, not wee David).

It will appeal to a few of the woke voters in the UK, so whilst it will not affect Trump or US politics in the slightest, it will probably harden a few more votes for him over here. It also keeps him popular with his Liberal Democrat members in his strategy to retain their support for him as party leader.

It's a pathetic gesture from someone who knows they will never be PM.

However just suppose that in a coalition government Davy was PM what we he do then? Rather like Lammy & Co he would have to deal with Trump (or MAGA successor) with the baggage of of boycotting him and perhaps social media posts.

It's far better to attend and speak truth to power.

As others have pointed out whenever a politician boycotts meeting a leader the media soon point out the hypocrisy as they are bound to have met someone worse.

Given the disproportionate number of members of the trans community engaging in shooting people, perhaps anyone with trans family members (like grand-children) should keep a close eye on them during the three-day visit of Trump - or at least hide their high-heels so they can't get out and about.

I look forward to the next election where the Lib Dems are once again taught that the vast majority of the country regard them nowhere near as highly as they regard themselves.

Their continual ignoring of their relative lack of popularity despite being around for decades is quite the lesson in self delusion. Reform has been around for less than ten years and Farage leading about half that time yet are hammering them in the polls....not even close.

They are another 'out group' party of mostly middle class 'well to dos' and they are about as up to date with the country's problems as Starmer is.

i noticed RTE doing a Trump Epstein story. Trump says its fake, and i believe him.

And funny enough, i couldnt find RTE's coverage of the Peter Mandleson-Epstein story ? its curious that, dont you think ?

It was crowed all over the news broadcast. After all, it's abroad, Brit bashing and sidetracking us all from any real issues in Ireland. Which, as both of us realise, have not been addressed in the slightest. Students are paying a thousand a month to share a room where I live. Food is nearly twice as much but we can't wait for more eco taxes and the automated censorship of our WhatsApps. After all, according to our news, our most pressing issue is thousands of miles away. Just how will we get all those Palestinians into Ireland? It's going to take a big cardboard cut out heart from us all isn't it.

It's better for him to do that than not get invited.

In an unfortunate turn of events, extra emergency precautions are being implemented for Trumps State visit.
Solvent experts and and safety headwear professionals are being placed on standby because the expected high wind speeds might cause irreparable damage to Trumps barnet.
