Igor Julio (from BHA)

This definitely isn't the replacement for Guehi. Look at our CB options and behind the starting 3, we have Lerma and that's pretty much it right now.

Igor Julio on loan is probably to allow Lerma to move into central midfield to cover the injury to Wharton, more than it is as a replacement for Guehi.

Seems the club (or at least Parish) have got into a position of:
  • Acceptance that losing out on £35m+ is going to cause us problems down the line, so we need to take it
  • Acceptance that an Ake, Akanji, Diomande etc. isn't going to happen in this window
  • Acceptance that Lacroix, Richards, Canvot, Lerma is not enough numbers (we all know this)
And have decided that loaning a player who knows the league a bit, with an option to buy, gives us enough to get through the coming months and defers the decision to work out how good Julio, Riad and Canvot are before committing to buying a big name.

Obviously doing what Glasner wanted and sorting this out 2 months ago would have been the ideal outcome.

The difference between Europa League and Conference is about £20m

Chicken feed in the buying and selling of top players for a club in our position.

Thus, Liverpool offered a straight payment of £35m. That is more than the difference for just one player.

Of course SP wants to sell him!

We have to sell Guehi now or in January. I hope the latter when we are better prepared.

It has to be January as far as I’m concerned- Keeping Ollie happy has to be the priority.

Agree.

Canvot is one for the future so we need Prem experience now. I think we need to write off Riad this season as he's had a very serious injury so even when fit he'll need c 6 months to get his sharpness back. Akanji was never a realistic target.
A prem loan i suspect was always SP's preference.

In terms of MG i'd refuse to sell for less than £40m. Liverpool clearly need him so they need to wake up and make us a decent offer.

This is surely to cover the long term injury to Chadi Riad.

Expected return date is later this year but it's going to take longer than that build up fitness, especially match fitness. That's if you goes well.

Perhaps his injury is much worse that is being let on by the club.

In 9 years, including loans, he's played for 8 clubs but never had more than 57 games for any of them
(for what it's worth that was Fiorentina).
