Manuel Akanji

30 year old on 180 grand a week. Fits the model

Less bothered about his age - but this would smash our max wage ceiling so can't see it happening. Would cost c£45m all in over say a 3 year contract.

More importantly i think we'd struggle to get him to join regardless

He'll go to AC Milan - probably. This is where we miss Freedman's 'arm around the shoulder' chat with a prospective player. He'd be a great addition to the squad
We have other people more than capable of getting a deal done and there are rumours a new DoF is about to be appointed. Anyone would think Freedman was God. Many of the players found during Freedman's time were recommendations from other people.

It's pretty easy to convince completely pampered Man City players on 180k a week to come to Selhurst. They probably know just how wonderful South London is too.
The stumbling block are the free houses for his entourage and the new cars for his extended family but Palace are working on it. We've got a couple of portacabins and Hughes traded in his Prius recently.

I am probably going to post something naive.

If a player is bought, he has to negotiate personal terms with his new club.

Including wages. That could be anything. It doesn't have to match his current wages. It can be less.

Outside the prem only a handful of clubs can offer what Man City offer. Now, here's the question. Do any of them want him?

If not, he has a choice. Stay in a top flight league but get paid less. Go to the Pro League (if they want him). Or retire.

No, i think you summed up the Situation perfectly

He is on 130k not 180k, so 3 year deal at 100k a week, is 15.6m wages + 15m fee is 30m, 40 for Guehi, job done, two years left at Man City on 130k is 13.5m wages.

He has more choice than that. There's the usual "get my wages until contract expires" choice.

He's clearly not coming here. However, Canvot looks positive or whatever his name is. I liked Charlie Hughes as an option but have heard nothing about it recently.
We've all been through this.

At this stage of the window, if the player isn't donning his red and blue for the pic in front of Sainsbury's, he ain't coming.

All those other rumours were just that.

I can see Pino coming and a loan on Monday. Nothing more.

And Guehi going nowhere.
