As the title suggests, my sons 4 in January, just registered him in my account so hes got a client number but not entirely sure he can keep still for long enough to get through a game yet!

What age did people take their son/daughter to their first game? I was 9 at my first game so but if a wait for him if I make him do the same!

I think my daughters first game was against Sheffield United around 1999/2000(ish) so she would’ve been around 5/6 years old
Back in the day it was easier taking kids when all you had to do was pay a few quid at the gate and stand where you want.
Sadly my first games were Charlton with my uncle and grandad when I was about 6 or 7 in the early 70’s but my first palace, I was 10, thankfully I made the right decision

Mine are both in their 30's never been, zero interest in football sadly. I was 8 and hooked for life.

24 September 1969. League Cup match versus Blackpool, 2-2. A thick fog descended, which made for a somewhat comical high scoring game.

I took my eldest when he was 3 . Had to carry him in between him trying to walk from Norwood Junction .To be fair it probably was a bit far for a three year old .
It was at a time that there was a family section at the Holmesdale end of the main stand ,I think sponsored by the Croydon Advertiser .

He seemed to pay attention to what was going on but half time changed all that . The creche was well run with minders looking after the really young ones that fans had brought along .My son decided he would rather stay there than come out for the second half .

I think he was about 6 before I took him again but the fact that he had been blooded meant more to me than it did to him

I just checked the historical record, and it was against Blackpool that we played our first match as a professional football club: 13 January 1906: 1-1 in the FA Cup. Also of note, Palace did not play regular league matches until the 1920-21 season.

My daughters in her 30’s now and obviously I’ve always looked after her at football when she goes, but I keep winding her up now saying that it’s not going to be long before she’s going to have to look after me at football, help me up the stairs and take me to the toilet, go to get drinks and mop my dribble up, push the wheelchair etc 🤣I say see how keen you are to go then😇

To the toilet, watch Palace, or somewhere else?

Are you Bromley Gilbert, William Gilbert’s twin brother?

It’s easier now mate. There’s no one on the gate. Pick them up, scan the ticket and walk in with them.
If you are in a standing part of the ground you can hold them for the game, or stand them on your chair so they can see.
If everyone sits down , they sit on your lap. Easy.
Have a phone with pepper pig etc downloaded though, or you might not make half time.

I can see your point, i just meant back in the day when there was no tickets involved, you could just decide on the day to take your offspring and pay on the gate. I’ve been a season ticket holder for donkeys years and unless one of the fella’s I sit with isn’t going it’s been a struggle to get her a seat with us.

She’s 31 now, I’m going to tell her next time she goes she’s got to sit on my lap and watch pepper pig instead of the game 🤣

Yeah. It would look a bit weird you picking up a woman in her 30s and trying to squash her through the turnstile with you. 🤣

Took my Son when he was 4 to Palace v Blackpool in August 2011.
It was the week after the Croydon riots & had the Blackpool fans singing ‘you stupid bas’’rds, you burnt down your town’ which to be fair was quite clever.
Took plenty of sweets & got back to our seats from the toilet just as Palace equalised.
