Visiting from the US – Arthur Wait Stand (Section X) for March 14th?

Hello everyone,

I’m hoping to get a bit of local perspective before we purchase tickets.

My family and I (two adults and two kids) are visiting from the United States (South Carolina) and plan to attend the March 14th match. This will be our first Premier League game, and after a lot of research we kept hearing the same thing over and over: if you want to experience proper English football, Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park is the place to do it.

We’re currently looking at seats in the Arthur Wait Stand, Section X (longside) and wanted to ask Palace supporters if this is a good section for:
  • Experiencing the atmosphere and matchday culture
  • Being among home fans (but family-friendly)
  • Seeing the game well and soaking it all in
We’re not looking to treat this like a tourist attraction- we genuinely want to experience the club, the ground, and the atmosphere the right way, and we’re very respectful of Palace supporters and traditions.

Any thoughts on that section, or general matchday tips for visiting families, would be very much appreciated. We’re incredibly excited to finally experience Selhurst Park in person.

Thanks in advance — and up the Palace!

For the above the Upper Holmesdale might be your best bet - Block P as lower number row as you can get - although getting four seats together probably near impossible.

At least you would be able to get a drink before the game, use the toilet at half time (without missing 2nd half), not get wet if it's raining or have a post in your way...

Hi - Firstly I hope you have a great experience visiting Selhurst Park. Issues to be aware of :

Location : Trains to Norwood Junction or Selhurst are the best option. Always check beforehand to see if engineering works are affecting the train lines. This does happen quite regularly.

Seating - In the Arthur Waite there are 10 or so rows at the back of the stand that have a restricted view due to an overhead gantry. I would not recommend sitting there. I don't know the precise row numbers that are affected...maybe someone else can comment on this. The front 8 rows or so are not covered so you are likely to get wet if it rains.

Arriving 30 minutes or more before the game should allow you quick access to the ground. There are several different entrances to the Arthur Waite...most queue at the top entrance but there are usually shorter queues further down the road.

Facilities - By modern standards the facilities are quite poor, but tolerable for one game. There are toilets but queues form at busy periods. You can eat and drink in the concourse area, but you cannot bring alcohol to your seats (and probably not food either).

Atmosphere - this is good in the Arthur Waite, much better than in the Main Stand in my opinion. People predominantly sit during the game but stand when there is a break on, goalmouth action etc. Fans don't mix at football grounds in the UK...its not like the NFL in the US.

Personally I would go for the main Stand for a one off visit . Any pre game entertainment for the kids is at the back of that stand (fanzone) as is the ticket office which you are likely going to have to visit when your ticket app fails at the turnstile .The club shop is also situated here were you can buy everything Palace .

Bars are decent and the bogs are not busy apart from bang on HT .Just go and get a beer /dog/ coffee first .

Leeds at home will be a banger with lots of noise from both home and away supporters (more noise from us of course )

It is compulsory to join in with the singing and half and half scarves are banned in all stands .
