Villa’s unfair advantage

Sky have just announced that in the week before our semi final, Villa will play on the Tuesday 22nd while we play Arsenal on the Wednesday 23rd. So Villa will have an extra day’s rest. Not fair at all.

well with both games on Sky clearly one was to be on the Tues and the other on the Wed, so one team would have an extra day. If we play the semi on the Sunday it will make little difference.

Surely OG will mix it up a bit for this game to ensure a few are rested e.g. Eze and Wharton

The problem is it looks like because Villa might be playing in Europe the following week, our semi will be teatime Saturday (replacing our game scheduled v Arsenal) so we would only have a 2 day gap between games. If so I hope the club kick up an almighty fuss.

So out of the semi finals:

Nottingham Forest play on Monday 21st

Man city and a villa play each other on the Tuesday 22nd.

Then palace play wednesday 23rd

Surely then our semi final game will be on the Sunday otherwise we are well and truly shafted.

Why? What are the alternatives dates?

If we were to win our semi-final, we would then need to re-arrange our home game against Wolves currently scheduled for the weekend of the Cup Final.

Looking at midweek options for the Arsenal game, we basically only have the week that's been chosen because:
  1. Arsenal play in Europe next midweek
  2. We play Newcastle the following midweek
  3. There are Champions League semis the midweek following the weekend of the FA Cup semis.
  4. The next midweek sees us playing Forest on the Monday evening
  5. and the midweek after that is the midweek leading up to the Cup Final weekend
  6. and if we were to reach the Cup Final we would need the midweek after the Cup Final to fit in our home game against Wolves.
Basically, Tues 22nd and Wed 23rd April are the only realistic two options for rescheduling ours and the Villa matches.

Probably not because there are Champions League semis on the Tuesday and Wednesday after the FA Cup semis and if Villa were to get through their QF they might be chosen for the Tuesday game.

Surely the simplest solution was to have both games played on the Tuesday night 🤷🏻‍♂️

I understand sky sports have the games and they only care about viewership.

It’s Arsenal away. There will be nothing riding on this game they will have lost the league but nailed down a CL place. We’ll be well out of contention for Europe by then so we can pick whatever team we want, we’ve got a big enough squad these days.

I remember Holloway getting done for that. Do those rules still exist? Those rules only seem to cover the smaller clubs anyway.

Why do you think we will be out of contention for Europe ? If we finish like last season top 8 and a European spot is very possible.

It's a big if with our next three games Brighton, City and Newcastle and the following four against teams also hopeful of a European place. The final three are against teams who are likely to have nothing much to play for
Unless we get 5+ points in next three, it is probably time to give Nketiah, Franca, Esse and Kporha (who just signed a 4 year deal) more game time

The ones playing for places are ones who we can get at with our breakaways.
Forest saints Everton and a couple of others play like us so we don’t do so well against them.
