He was before my time but holds a place in history as the first Fourth division player to win a full cap when he played for Wales on 22.4.59. That they lost 4-1 and he never played for them again is best glossed over.

He hasn't died has he? Not really sure why you started this thread Teddy, but I certainly remember seeing him play. No doubt he's knocking on a bit now and without looking it up I reckon he must have played around 200 games for us.

No, he's still around. He's 89. You were pretty close - 238 games for Palace.
The only reason is that I remember a lot being made of Peter Taylor being the first Third division player since our own Budgie Byrne to play for England but Vic getting capped as a Fourth division player was a little bit of football history and we ain't got a lot of it to celebrate.

He was one of my PTI’s and a Swimming Instructor at Hendon when I left home and joined the Metropolitan Police in 1988.

A very calm and unassuming personality, he never spoke about his previous football career and you would’ve never known he was a fully capped former International goalkeeper.

He was an absolutely top bloke and one of the nicer more reasonable PTI’s amongst a raft of mean hard b*stards! 😄

My first Palace hero back in the days of the Fourth Division. He inspired me to play in goal - sadly I was not very good.
