The Gender Pay-Gap

Location
south pole
Country
Netherlands
The latest hobby-horse and fake victimhood being pedalled by our Leftist establishment.

With such gems as "its outrageous how little our women-footballers earn - compared to Kevin De Bruyne. Its all just a sexist conspiracy" ,

"The Professions : why should the earning-power, of a woman, stall just because she took a ten year career-break to have kids ? or because she is now juggling the day job with being a mum ?"

"Lets introduce Gender-quotas for top jobs in Boardrooms, Parliaments and University Professorships. Otherwise it will be all just men"

And simultaneously a silence on the 99% male jobs like bricklayers, Oil Rig workers, frontline soldiers and Sewer engineers. And little or no mention of the Gender-suicide gap, the Gender-homelessness gap or the Gender-Prison incarceration gap.

The Gender Pay Gap. Do we need 'equality of underpants' ? or is it all just a load of old B0l1ix ?

Do women footballers not earn more of a percentage than men footballers? It's just that men's football brings in a lot more money.

Correct me if I am wrong but I'm sure I read it somewhere.

Considering these women often play in a stadium with only a dozen spectators. Often family, friends, and a few straggler women with tight haircuts & a few bolts in their nose ? i dunno.

as a percentage of the Gate-money for the weekend, even a tenner would be a lot of money, after overheads like Floodlighting & insurance.

Men earning more than women. It must be some kind of a big conspiracy ?

I was promoted after a year's hard work and over 500 hours of unpaid overtime. I then discovered that a female colleague who went on maternity leave in February retuning in December also got promoted.

Where is the fairness? Women shouldn't be punished for having kids but if you ignore their absence from the workplace you discriminate against everyone else who is putting in a shift.

In my case I had a year's more experience than her, there were other factors I wont go into as to why she did not deserve it. Oddly the biggest complaints about this came from other women.

I am all for fairness but it is inevitable that a pay gap exists. Many women (and men) have no interest in a career so it is not like for like. As long as women have a fair crack at promotion that is the most relevant thing.

You’re not advocating meritocracy I hope.
That went out with DEI coming in.

Rest assured, I know of a company that has perfected the gender madness: At the end of each year, a certain number of people are honoured with a title that means they are financially better off. Usually, these titles are given - more or less - to people with special achievements. The group in charge for gender matters in the company ensured that two of these titles are awarded to people who are on maternity leave at the time of the award. Please don't be angry, but do what we do - shake your head and laugh!

I wonder if the original poster knows that it is a legal requirement for organisations above a certain size (c200 employees from memory) to report the GPG annually? That legislation was introduced some years back by a right leaning Conservative administration and, as a result, what organisations are doing about addressing any gaps has certainly captured Board room attention and much action as a result. Indeed, its usually a key feature of the Remuneration Committees (made up of NED's) report that is included in all annual reports.
There are a few examples of businesses that actually have a positive gap i.e. in favour of women. Diageo is one example that comes to mind and Experian might be another; both are acknowledged world class businesses who have EDI at the heart of their strategy.
I am truly amazed that there is still debate over this matter as EP has been a legal requirement going back into the 70's when Ford car workers won a landmark case. Anyway, that's my perspective - pretty different to what has been posted albeit I strongly suspect this site would nor represent the views of UK plc if they were ever asked!

School cleaners are paid on a par with dustbin men and shelf stackers are on a par with warehouse workers, due to recent court cases. Neither of those are good examples.

Dustmen are outside for their shift in all weathers and it is a physically hard and dirty / smelly job. School cleaners are mainly inside and it is nowhere near as physically demanding.

Warehouse workers often work in the open loading lorries or unheated warehouses again it is a physically demanding job I was a shelf stacker at M&S and my job was nothing like the warehouse guys.

But according to the courts these jobs are the same, personally I would offer every shelf stacker or cleaner a job as as dustman or warehouse worker see how many would take up the offer.

Equality doesn't appear to include working outside in all weathers and physical strength is not seen as a skill which I submit it is.

As the retirement age gets higher and higher it'll become more apparent that swinging a pickaxe is harder than it looks.
You mention warehouse workers - I've spent a lot of time in warehouses and would add they tend to be freezing, dead concrete is tiring to work on all day and mad forklift drivers are a threat to life and limb - both because they can push full pallets through high racking and off the other side and because they like to speed around corners like Lewis Hamilton on a caffeine high.

Warehouse workers or Furniture removals. Having worked both jobs i can confirm that brawn matters. A 25 year old man with the physique of Mateta will be more valuable than a 63 year old with smokers cough and type 2 diabetes. In both jobs i have never seen a 45 kilo Girly of any age.

Another funny part of the England women's team ? their lack of diversity. Lefties were losing their sh1.t that it was all white blondes. No women of colour. And not a single Hijab to be fastened after scoring a header.....not anywhere. Not very reflective of the England mens team. And certainly not like a men's football academy from Croydon. It is funny when reality impinges upon the Utopian dreams of lefties.

Perhaps it was the Pay Gap that prevented all these other women from choosing to be a professional full time footballer ?

I thought I would transfer from shelf stacker to warehouse worker so I volunteered to help out one day. It was snowing and bloody freezing worse I could not lift half the stuff the young big guys could. I lasted an hour before I gave up and accepted I just couldn't do the job.

A wise decision. We once did a stocktake, everything down to nuts, bolts and screws, which took 14 straight days. The overtime was nice though.

Recruitment adverts. Jobs available whereby you are excluded from the running if you are in possession of your own willy ( not purchased or surgically attached from elsewhere). Because clearly there is something wrong with more men getting to drive a bus.

It it is difficult to fill any female-quotas, perhaps they will need to pay women more than male-drivers ? say, 20% more ?

I get where you are going with this and I do not disagree with any of it. Thus, there are plenty of reasons for the gap outside direct or indirect discrimination.

Thus, women have the right to choose. If that choice is leaving the labour market for years to raise kids then all power to them. However, they should not expect to come back to the same pay as her peers when she left. Those male peers and women who did not leave are ahead of her and deserve more. You are not comparing apples.

That said, there are still workplaces where employees have the same experience the same job and add the same value but the male gets paid more. That cant be justified.

You never hear the feminists complaining about female models being paid more or the fact that universities are mostly comprised of women gaining pointless degrees for make busy jobs.

All you hear is over indulged and entitled middle class women complaining that their part of the pie isn't even bigger than the undeserved share they get. Hardly any of them do the jobs that actually matter and keep the lights on.....Women are responsible for most family debt too.

A sensible woman is like gold dust in the modern day.....When I was young I remember the long gone women in our family and they were very important and held families together.....proper women.....today it's a joke.

can our Lefties push that male P0.rn-stars be paid as much as female stars ? or that young men have as many bedroom-opportunities as young women ?

How about a gender-parity in high-street shopping ? the annual £ spend.....especially clothing, and consumer goods ?

or that our boat-refugees be 50% young single women ?

equality is fair, after all.
