The Brexit thread

Thinking might be hard for it let alone long term !
Whenever I travel anywhere in Europe these days I am inevitably struck by how much better off and contented the average person seems. If that’s the result of not thinking then perhaps we ought to reinstall some of those who have let us down in the past.

Good for them but being in the EU didn't help a lot in 70s & 80s when we had mass unemployment and galloping inflation.

Have you visited anywhere that have just suffered a terrorist attack? How can you possibly tell how well off and contented people are, unless you spend a lot of time with them going about their everyday lives? What areas have you recently visited?

Europe’s economies don’t appear to be doing well atm

France would be totally fecked if it wasn't for nuclear energy.

Germany have been spending way beyond their means and the Ukraine war has hit them really really hard economically....but like us they decided on these policies.

By a distance my favourite 'leave' comment:-

'By 24th June 2025 Paris, Frankfurt and Milan will have stagnated, but Leeds and Birmingham will be important financial centres'.

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Birmingham, then yes, that place is deserving of all your contempt although I could make an arguement that it represents, in many ways, the UK you champion in terms of diversity and all that shitty jazz.

But my understanding is that Leeds is actually doing very well, and has increasingly done so since Brexit.

I was in Israel just before the Hamas attack and was aware of how certain segments of the Israeli people behaved poorly towards their Muslim citizens, whilst others got along very well. I am quite sure any attack changes perceptions though, at least for a while.

This year I have only been in Spain, but in recent years I have been in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Gibraltar, Slovinia, Montenegro and Greece. All since I was in Israel.

Haven't you left La-la Land off the list?
