I've only just caught up with this story. A member of the academic staff resigned after being pilloried for expressing views which didn't accord with the university's requirement to "positively represent trans people". To the university's great indignation the regulator found it guilty of "restricting what viewpoints you can express", and imposed a fine of £585k. The university has complained that the regulator's decision "puts free speech above all else, and the only thing that universities will be able to do is regulate unlawful speech" - which is exactly as it should be. To be fair to Bridget Phillipson, our otherwise useless Education Secretary, she has come out with a strongly worded endorsement of the regulator's stance.
