I've only just caught up with this story. A member of the academic staff resigned after being pilloried for expressing views which didn't accord with the university's requirement to "positively represent trans people". To the university's great indignation the regulator found it guilty of "restricting what viewpoints you can express", and imposed a fine of £585k. The university has complained that the regulator's decision "puts free speech above all else, and the only thing that universities will be able to do is regulate unlawful speech" - which is exactly as it should be. To be fair to Bridget Phillipson, our otherwise useless Education Secretary, she has come out with a strongly worded endorsement of the regulator's stance.

The key issue here is the policies of the university. In seeking to protect them (groups) the policy actually meant any criticism is deemed unacceptable.

The university still does not get that.

the Christian fella, in the link, below is a martyr to the trans-culture-war. Thrown in jail for more than 400 days, they are now hell-bent on bankrupting him. Basically for his refusal to suppress his opinions on 'a bloke in a dress'

You repeating misinformation on a daily basis doesn’t turn it into the truth.

He wasn’t jailed, or fined, for his views. Views he is free to hold and to express.

He was jailed for ignoring Court orders not to present himself at the school he used to work in and for disrupting them. He was fined increasing amounts for the same thing.

He can easily avoid any further punishment, simply by not attending the school.

That is due to the potential constant trouble that can be created. But it doesn't reinstate the people already forced out. Largely Academia self polices its viewpoints by not funding or giving positions. It's that simple really. Have the wrong opinion and you won't get a job. Plus, frankly, it's mostly asslicking with a bit of sexual attraction thrown in, usually.
