Sim Only Options

From day one, I've only ever had phones and sim cards from the major providers - EE, O2, Orange, Vodafone etc. But now O2 are putting up their rates more than they said they would next year (not much but it's a matter of principle), I'm looking at other options.

Does anyone use any of the companies that piggy-back these major networks ? Is the coverage and customer service any good ? I've done a bit of research and some people say the signal differs when it's through one of these companies, which i don't get - surely the signal is the signal ?

I don't use a great amount of data as I work from home and am usually connected to the WiFi. I'd like to have inclusive roaming for when I go on holiday and a bit of data to browse HOL when I'm away, but that's about it.

Any recommendations or companies to stay away from ?

My wife uses Lebara at £4.90/month but like you doesn't use a lot of data. Roaming in Europe is free but we've never used it for that.

I've recently renewed with Three at £4/month with 4gb data on a 1 month renewable contract However I have been with them for 3 years. Roaming is not free.

Where we live the signal is not great but we use wi-fi calling.

This may help.

There's a relatively new company called Spusu that piggy-backs O2 (my current provider). They're quite a bit cheaper than going direct through O2 but their reviews are a bit hit and miss, with some people saying the signal is not what it should be. I'm thinking of giving them a go on a rolling monthly contract, so that if it's crap I can get out without any bother.

Depends on how much you want to spend and your data requirement to one person they say they don't need much but that can be 20gb or even 40gb.

GiffGaff who use Telefonica (o2) are good cost bit more over some others which can be worth it because customers support has been spot from few friends who are on that network. (Cn get them to give you invite if interested you will get extra credit for bonus)

There is other providers like Lebera who have very good deals if you go through cashback or compare sites they use Voda network and customer support is an area they are not great in.

This is how a lot of them are now they are cheap for a reason but i dont see it as an issue because they are rolling contracts so you can leave without even needing to contact anyone.

Been Sim only for yonks. Buy your own phone as and when you like. One option abroad to consider is an ESIM which comes in various shapes and sizes. Phone needs to take them but apart from a bit of initial fiddling they are great - very cost effective short term solution.

I use Talkmobile. £7.95 pm for 40gb of data. Also get free roaming in most of Europe.
Excellent connection (we are in an area that is poor for 02 and Three). It works off Vodafone Network.
You can sign up for 30 days initially to make sure it suits you.
