Ricky Hatton

Met him in the Dubliner in Tenerife at Christmas.

Took time to talk to me and my mate, who had fought Hatton as an amateur.

My mate is a big un, and Ricky asked how the hell he beat him. My mate just said "because you outclassed and outfought me"

He was a genuine nice guy.

Good to hear that story. I never met Hatton but I have met quite a few retired boxers in my time (mainly at fights). They all were nice to chat to gave time to fans , autographs and selfies etc. I can't say the same for some other sportsmen.

This is very sad. Statistically, suicide is a very big one. Especially for men. Men are Four times more likely to take their own lives than women. Ricky went out the same way as a couple of fellas i knew. Its very hard on the family too.
I include the link to another great British fighter who went the same way. There should be more support out there for men who cannot see the light - men who despair and have lost all hope.
