Chamberlain earned the title "king of the mini-series" for his leading roles in Shogun and The Thorn Birds.

I remember seeing him in the 1980's on TV on the trailers for his mini-series. He seemed to lack charisma, so i never bothered watching anything he was in.

Hr died hours before his 91st Birthday. Let's hope people kept their receipts for his presents.

Timely in some ways as Shogun is now massive again.

He was pretty good for an American actor. He spoke clearly and was very good looking. I was never more shocked than when I learnt he was gay.

I always associate him with Dr Kildare which my folk watched regularly on our old black and white TV. He was good, too, in The Count of Monte Cristo, one of my wife's favourite films.

Tbf, the only thing that stands out for me that he was in was the towering inferno, which was a bit of a blockbuster back in the day.

Yes he was, and if memory serves me right when they rigged up a chair across to the roof of another building to take women and children to safety he was pushing them out the way to get on it
