Potential Covid Contract corruption

Location
in a hidey-hole
Country
Wales
"An anti-corruption charity says it has identified significant concerns in contracts worth over £15.3bn awarded by the Conservative government during the Covid pandemic, equivalent to £1 in every £3 spent.

Transparency International UK found 135 “high-risk” contracts with at least three red flags - warning signs of a risk of corruption.

Twenty-eight contracts worth £4.1bn went to firms with known political connections, while 51 worth £4bn went through a "VIP lane" for companies recommended by MPs and peers, a practice the High Court ruled was unlawful.

Transparency International UK analysed 5,000 contracts for red flags.

The charity said its analysis also indicated that almost two thirds of high-value contracts to supply items such as masks and protective medical equipment during the pandemic, adding up to a total of £30.7bn, were awarded without any competition."

Don't worry. All the findings will be vague enough for specific people to swerve blame and criminal charges. And you might wonder why Starmer doesn't have a pot to pl55 in.

None of them are straight. The system encourages corruption.

But don't you find the amounts (£billions) under scrutiny just astounding ? £1 in every £3 spent is under investigation, and some were clear breaches of procedure.

And loads of contracts were awarded to companies under 3 months old. How so ?

I would welcome fast track prison sentences for all the politicians involved in corruption. We know that won't happen.
Starmer's freemason lodge won't be allowing it.
He possibly had his snout in the trough and this is not just in the uk for sure.
due diligence wasn’t catered for or carried out because of the panic covid bought about.

True, but we could also look at it as highly organised and opportunistic corruption. I don't think I have to say that having a government who look to enrich themselves the minute there's an emergency is not the way to go. Make an example of all of these to stop it happening again. It's far, far more serious than rioting after the murders of three children. Let these politicians and their mates see what prison is like. Fast track them.

Starmer? He was in opposition during covid so clearly wasn't involved in the VIP lane 'corruption'.

It is one thing not having sufficient due diligence in place due to the need to act quickly (partly because existing PPE was not fit for purpose or out of date) it is another thing for MPs and other senior figures to 'recommend' contracts for mates. Many of these companies had no trading history so should have been immediately rejected

This is perfect Tory territory: enrich each other. Keep it among your mates. Classic.

It's nothing personal, just business, as they say in the mafia films.

2TK wanted longer lockdowns with more furlough. The out of date and lack of PPE was because Years ago a simulated viral breakout highlighted the need to keep PPE stocked etc. no one believed it necessary hence why that was the case. Google will show the date and who refused it being a thing that required addressing. Could be some stones and glass houses on the horizon.

The legal system will never see these particular piggies prosecuted for having their snouts in this delicious trough.

But there was nothing to see surely as the last government was prefect and this is all the fault of the current incumbents isn't it?.

People have short memories!

When Covid first hit we were short of PPE and scrambling in an international market place to get enough to keep the NHS functioning. There was an air of panic around as the impact was unknown. The result was we paid over the odds, often well over the odds.

Corners were cut, red tape swept aside, contacts used and favours returned. New companies emerged specifically to answer the call. Ministers were twisting arms to get things moving.

The potential for corruption by some is obvious, and was always obvious, but with the overwhelming need to get action today it was ignored at the time.

By all means investigate and reveal the truth. If blatant corruption exists which delivered nothing then bring those involved to justice.

Let the judgements though recognise the context of the time.

At last one we agree on yay 😀

That is correct we was short when it first hit something which is unacceptable only a year before we had run drills/scenarios in case something like this was to happen so we should have had stock.

I expect it was managers not wanting to pay $$$. (NHS wastes so much money because of those people)

We was slow once covid hit to try and stock up most of the NHS classed it as a 0 threat until 3-6 months in so when we jumped onboard we was already at the end of the line.

The whole thing was a global scam anyway.

Nothing will come from it all about ticking boxes and another thing to use to attack other govt party so complete waste of more resources.

I can see them going after normal people already been a lot about claiming people do fraud benefit claims etc same old from govt making things up to misdirect.

To work in a system like the govt you have to be corrupt that is how the world works but if it benefits this country so be it in this case it has not and all it's done it take tax payers money and line the wealthy with even more (this will have a long lasting effect as well)

Yeah, I know. Thanks to the booster jab, I now have to use a wheelchair when I go out, as I have what's commonly known as 'drop foot'
Sorry to hear that

I never took any vaccines, I remember being at work when a couple of colleagues sent me to Coventry over that and now they act like everything is OK but I remember.

I was the same. I had to bite my lip and sometimes lie and forge documents to keep my job at the time. It was awful times.
