1. VAR Interventions: The threshold for VAR intervention is now higher. VAR will only step in if there is “no doubt” the on-field referee made a clear mistake. This aims to reduce stoppages for marginal calls.

2. Referee’s Call: The principle of “referee’s call” means the original decision will stand unless VAR can clearly prove a mistake. This reduces the frequency of replays for borderline decisions.

3. Refereeing Transparency: The Premier League Match Centre will post near-live explanations of VAR decisions on social media and display more replays and explanations in stadiums.

4. Stoppage Time Reduction: Time added for goal celebrations will only start counting after 30 seconds, reducing stoppage time. For example, six goals could mean three minutes less stoppage time.

5. Set-Piece Obstruction: Attacking players who obstruct opponents at set-pieces will face stricter penalties, potentially leading to more free-kicks against them.

6. Handball Law Changes: The handball rule is relaxed; players don’t have to keep arms rigidly by their sides. Handball penalties will be given less harshly, and non-deliberate handballs leading to a penalty will not automatically result in a booking.

7. Penalty Rules: The ball must be on or over the center of the penalty spot during a penalty. Encroachment will only be penalized if it impacts the play or the kicker’s chance.

8. Ball Retrieval: Ball boys and girls can now hand the ball to goalkeepers for restarts, but the multiball system remains for outfield players.

9. Substitute Warm-Ups: Teams can now have up to five substitutes warming up simultaneously, an increase from three.

10. New Ball: The Nike Flight ball, featuring Aerowsculpt technology, will be used this season for truer flight.

What do you think of the new rules/changes coming in this season?

I never knew that this was even a rule! Seems bizarre so makes sense that it's been changed.

Fingers crossed for less interference from VAR.
