Since Freedman left, and what an incredible act to follow with his fantastic signings over the years, unaware of who is in the frame to replace him, unless I have missed something.
Was only thinking that this morning.
Seems to have gone very quiet on that front.
Need to get something sorted soon as the transfer silly season is nearly upon us.
I wouldn't underestimate Freedman's role.
He has a whole network of contacts and agents after a lifetime in football.
He also has a deep understanding of Palace and how the club operates.
I'm not suggesting that it can't be replicated, but it's not a case of pulling in anybody to perform the role.
How extensive is Glasner's (and his team's/contacts') knowledge in different leagues in England?
You might 100% be right in the data rich world we live in these days. But several of our recent permanent signings have been exciting Championship prospects (Olise, Eze, Wharton, Esse, Sarr arguably). I'm not sure Glasner will know too much about these teams and players.
This factor is, I feel, a massive consideration for the transfer window coming up. There's no doubt that Dougie's track record for unearthing talent is exceptional and finding someone who has an equal ability will be very difficult indeed.
I do worry, bearing in mind there will be, in all likelihood, players leaving this summer. Replacing and augmenting on such a large scale is a daunting prospect; will his successor have Dougie's uncanny eye for footballing talent and a bargain?
If any of clickbaits ramblings are to be believed we’re already in discussions for a bunch of players. Dougie leaving when he did has always felt strange. I wonder if they’ve decided to give Ollie more say in who we sign for the time being after the slow summer last year. By all accounts we have a scouting network identifying potential targets. We’ve suddenly become more attractive to decent players. Ollie and Steve get their heads together after a couple of weeks well earned rest. Decide how to spend the budget and Bob’s your auntie.
