Blackadder writers have a cunning plan to unleash an abandoned episode of the iconic sitcom back onto the world. An unfilmed script was sadly ditched before production in 1988, but writer Richard Curtis has revealed there is a chance yet for Blackadder in Bethlehem.

The "lost" work by Curtis and Ben Elton depicts Edmund Blackadder as an innkeeper approached by Joseph and Mary as they seek a bed for the night. It features Celebrity Traitors star Sir Stephen Fry, who starred as General Melchett.

Series 1 was complete sh1t but the next 3 are excellent. Series 4 is the best. Stephen Fry really makes it the best one and the satire of the moronic slaughter of people for literally no gain in land or anything is perfect. I don’t know if they could deliver that level of comedy again. I wonder what wokery they force into it. I wonder if the highly intelligent Stephen Fry appreciates the civilisation he lives in as an openly gay man in.

Blackadder was funny in its day, but best to let it rest in peace.

I'm still annoyed that a new Life On Mars series was ready to go but didn't get the backing.

One of the few great shows the BBC ever made.

I quite like series one but the other 3 were much better. Maybe because Ben Elton was co-writing them whereas it was Richard Curtis on his own for the first.

Tim Mcinerny as Lord Percy
Hugh Lawrie as the prince
Stephen Fry as General Melchett

They are are fantastically funny characters played by excellent actors.

Not forgetting the late, great Rik Mayall as the Lord Flashearts - although sadly, I doubt you'd be allowed to get away with his character these days

He used to steal every scene he was in.
Yep, him and Rowan Atkinson didn’t get on

Flash is the name. Flash by name, flash by nature.

‘’Treat your plane like you treat your woman... get inside her five times a day and take her to heaven and back.’’

‘’Just because I can give multiple orgasms to the furniture just by sitting on it doesn't mean I'm not sick of this damned war; the mud, the noise, the endless poetry.’’

‘’Funny name for a guy isn’t it? Last person I called darling was pregnant twenty seconds later’’

Blackadder 2: ‘’Am I pleased to see you or have I got a canoe in my pants’’

Worth mentioning again, but Rik was very kind to my cousin who was just an extra. They did a show and got on Rik said I have a TV series coming up they'll be something in it for you. My cousin thought no more about this most "stars" say this and don't mean it. Six months later he got the call and the part.

By all accounts a pretty decent guy.

I saw a documentary about the lost pilot, they then showed the pilot after talking about it.

In the pilot the Blackadder character is closer to Series 2 but for some reason they scrapped that idea and went with series 1 where he is an idiot. Baldrick is played by a different actor who wasn't available for Series 1 so Robinson got the gig and probably just a well. The era is around Henry VII.

I hope they don't make another one it's had it's time and in the documentary the writers all pretty much say they fell out by season 4, it had run it's course.

Not such an Alan B’stard then.

I know I’m in the minority but season one was my favourite by far.
Went on a pilgrimage to Alnwick Castle where it was filmed on location.
The cast was stellar, especially in the first episode with Peter Cook having way too much fun. Brian Blessed at his preposterous best. The above mentioned Rik Mayall going berserk in the finale. The episodes with the Scotsman who takes his land and the Witchsmeller Poursuivant are absurdly good.
By the end of four series the jokes about the size of baldrick’s brain were getting tired.
They rarely repeated season 1 and even Atkinson said he didn’t like it.
But then he went on to make the abomination that was TheThinBlue Line….basically poor man’s camp 90s black adder in police uniforms.

The problem the writers said they had with the pilot and then Season 1 was the cast was too large and the actors did not have enough to do. By season 2 they had worked out that it needed fewer people and they reversed the Blackadder Baldrick dynamic.
