Missing the traditional FA Cup Final Build-Up – What Are Your Alternatives?

An Irish Eagle here who can't make the game and feeling nostalgic. I really miss the BBC's all-day pre-match build-up. It started when I was nine, watching the '90 final- Mam wouldn't let me catch the replay 'cos it was past my bedtime-and after that, I didn't care who was playing, I just loved the hype.

How are you recreating that classic build-up nowadays? Any YouTube compilations, podcast deep-dives, or matchday rituals that help you get into the spirit? Would love to hear how others are building the buzz.

Also, am I the only one who counts the ZDS as a major trophy? John Salako shook my hand thru the fence as they did the lap of honour that day

On a coach to London listening to the 5YP podcast and Steve Coppell remixing about watching the tv coverage of the players having breakfast, I remember it well.

The whole build up used to be wonderful. Player profiles introduced by the cheekiest chappie in the team, the camera on the coach to Wembley, the players pretending to be in hysterics while some B list comedian went through his routine, suffering through some plinky plonky Cup Final song where the half the players are plainly steaming in the video. And all the players with pints of milk after the game while one of them is wearing the daftest hat he could find.
Everything.

That's exactly what I miss. Back then, just watching it on TV was the event. I spent my formative years in North London, and my best mate was Arsenal -but every year, we'd go round to each other's houses to watch it together, regardless of who was playing. I can only imagine it's nothing like actually being there, but in the week leading up to it, it was all we could talk or think about. Just getting hyped for the TV coverage alone.

Steve Coppell is like Iggy Pop (bear with me) his voice is far deeper than it should be for someone his size - although it's hard to imagine Sir Steve ripping his shirt off and covering himself with peanut butter. Mind you if we win today anything is possible.

Just listening to his interview with OG
can't imagine him covered in peanut oil but as you say anything is possible 😂
