Great article from sky looking at Lacroix, with a lot of comparisons to Anderson.

Selected/key points:
  • Lacroix is four years younger than Andersen and, at £21m, cost roughly £9m less than his predecessor
  • Statistically best 1-on-1 defender in the league, nearly 70% success rate, 12% higher than that of any other player
  • 10th fastest player in the league (2nd fastest CB)
  • 2nd most interceptions in the league
  • Slightly better long pass success rate vs Anderson
  • 11th in the league for expected set piece goals

i think he was less than that . I think it was 18m upfront with another 3 in add ons, but it was in Euro not £ so c £15m upfront.

Still think we should have kept Andersen and sold Guehi instead, no chance he's staying anyway and will probably end up at Liverpool for half the price Newcastle offered.

Andersen had less than 2 years left on his contract - 28 years old - Fulham paid Euro 29.50 Million (According to Transfer market) & offered him a 5 year deal at double his Palace salary (reputed to now be £150,000 a week) - I struggle to see how its plausible to think that we could have kept him & maintained any form of sensible pay structure.

I had a quick look at the Fulham fan site. Considering the fee and wages he is not ripping up telephone directories. Most fans seem to think he is okay but are worried about his lack of pace and whether this will decline even more.

i think Fulham have paid OTT for a decent reliable centre half who maybe is at his peak or about to decline. So I think it was good business for us.

He's a bit of a beast and there's something quintessentially "Palace" about him somehow - a cult hero in waiting if he's not already. It's interesting that his long pass success is better than Andersen when that was his main attraction and Andersen was prone to giving away free kicks in dangerous positions; we now have Hughes to do that but at least his are usually further up the pitch.

You've got to imagine that, it will.

As you said Anderson on the decline and Lacroix on the way up, IMO its an unbelievably good bit of business.

We don’t get many palace goals up the Whitehorse end in recent years, so anyone who does put the ball in up our end is fine by me 😀

Joking aside though, top player, up there for player of the season so far

I'd go further and say it was great business for us.

Lacroix was, by far, our best bit of summer transfer business. I was very worried about losing Anderson but the back three has become a very solid unit and is probably the most successful part of the team so far this season. Guehi and Lacroix complement each other very well. Lacroix is athletic, strong and quick. Guehi is positionally good and good on the ball.

The timing of losing Anderson was highly disruptive and a contributing factor to our very poor start. However, acquiring Lacroix looks like a great move.
