In the World of Rabbits.....the female owns the home and chooses (or rejects) whatever males are available. sounds familiar ?
In the World of Penguins, the females fight each other for ownership of a good male. Cos he will be a good provider of warmth and food.
In the vast majority of the animal kingdom....the males fight each other
Spiders & the Preying Mantis........ devour the male
Most higher mammals......new alpha males behave like ISIS or the old Yamnaya.... capturing the territory and the fertile females....killing all else.
Rome lost its masculinity circa 250 AD , and the rest is history.
