Maintaining a strong Prem performance while distracted by Europe..

Location
south pole
Country
Netherlands
Both ManUre and Spurs were dire in the Prem last season. Tired players, injuries, almost jetlagged. All that money and still dire. And yet both were good enough to make the final and Tottenham to lift the trophy.
As per my previous Portsmouth observations, Playing Europe on a Thursday evening can be a real nightmare for your prem performances.

In my humble opinion, we can either a) be strong in Europe or b) the Prem .....choose one. With the added risk of being mediocre in both, akin to a Roman centurian who has defeated 4 Gauls in a pitched battle and is now beginning to flag against the fifth Gaul.

How to we face up to this challenge ?

OG was quite sanguine about it when asked, saying it's really just one more game a month for the first 6 months. Of course the travel involved can also play a part but he's been in this position before so hopefully will guide us through.

Totally disagree. We are not United or Spurs (thank God). If we can run a successful FA cup campaign while tearing it up in the Prem second half of this season with one of the smallest squads in the division I dont believe Glasner will have any issue at all competing on both fronts next season. Especially as our squad will be bigger by at least 3 or 4 additions next season.
Its about prioritizing. Prem comes first. Always has to. Then its Europe, Then the FA Cup, Then the Carabaou. I have no doubt our youngsters and benchwarmers will get a lot of game time in the early rounds of the domestic cups. Glasner might even rest players towards the end of the league phase of the Europa. Its about managing which is his job and so far proven to be damned good at it!

you are broadly correct Eagle. But i wished i shared your optimism. And as for the Carabou cup, that can take a running jump.

That's the spirit..

Looks like it is going to be a moot point. It will be more a question of how strong our squad will be and how depressed the manager and players will be if we do not get into Europe
West Ham were no better this season without European competition
