Last 2 ref performances at Selhurst Park

Location
Kenley
Country
England
The last 2 ref performances have been the most inconsistent and poor that I can ever remember at Selhurst Park. Maybe it’s because they are fresh in the mind, I don’t know, but my god they were bad.

1. Palace v Bournemouth- Chris Richard’s sent off for 2 very soft yellows whilst a Bournemouth player given the benefit of the doubt and stays on.

2. Palace v Forest - 8 yes 8 Forest players booked! All for cynical tactical fouls some players were already on yellows and still committing the same tedious fouls. Their goal keeper knew what he was doing when bringing down Mitchell, ref didn’t see anything and what’s more the linesman had an even better view and didn’t help him out. Then they were trying to fix the communication links towards the end of the match, which most probably meant the didn’t consult on the incident at all.

Maybe we are just not getting the rub of the green at the moment, but this seems to be happening more and more frequently…..

The last three really Gary, you would think the amount of cards waved around they were dirty games, but they weren’t. We’ve been saying it for years, football is fast becoming non contact. No wonder most games haven’t got that intensity anymore, players are frightened to get stuck in for fear of getting booked. It really is getting to the stage where every tackle IS a foul and/or a booking.the problem is as well, they give so many cards out for niggly little stuff, when something does actually warrant a card they seem reluctant sometimes
refereeing has definitely got worse, probably brought on by the confusion that VAR has brought to the game

I just think the standard is declining and has been declining for some time. There are several names now I don't want reffing our team. Also, if you look at other teams, they have refs they clearly don't want. That points to poor standards of refereeing overall.
The problem is PGMOL, the ever changing rules and technology and, it has looked like ever since PGMOL started, that there is some kind of "entertainment" (controversy) instructions given to refs. Confidentiality no doubt.
Refs are one area I'd prefer under the FA. Although it didn't seem much better in the past either. Look at what Man U, and before that Liverpool, got away with in the past.

The Clattenberg final when Connor Wickham was clean through, takes some beating!

The Forest game the same 2 players were constantly breaking up play with cynical fouls, i was amazed no one got sent off. You think 7 outfield players and the goal keeper all on yellows with 15 to go! Nuno Santo managed that really well considering…….

The players don't help themselves - screaming and turf thumping at the slightest of contact. Trying to sort out genuine bad challenges from the fakers in a split second isn't easy !

I think what everybody - players, managers and fans want is consistent application of the rules. And we aren't seeing that. Not even from one referee over 90 + minutes in the same game. Stand up Sam Barrott v. Bournemouth.

I expect referees to make genuine mistakes. But Madley not seeing the foul(s) on Mitchell, Oliver not stopping the game v. Millwall - those aren't mistakes, those are examples of incompetence.

VAR and the ridiculous interpretations of offside and to a lesser extent, handball, haven't helped.

That nice Mr. Deeney admitted Watford did the same.
