Labour beat SNP and Reform in by -election.A most unusual event for the government to win a by election, Labour euphoric as Reform were the bookies favourite.perhaps the public have seen them for what they really are.

As you say a most unusual by election.

I think it says more about the SNP, they really most be bad if Labour can trounce them. As for Reform well Scotland is not their natural stomping ground many of the issues they do well on in England e.g. Immigration the Scots don't care about or are pro.

Never forget that Scotland voted to reman in the EU so Farage is unlikely to be highly regarded there!

This proves that Labour appeal to every country in the U.K. something that eludes other parties, this is a signpost to future General election wins by Labour. The Tory tragedy continues.

I'm not sure the recent council elections back that statement up.

By elections often throw up odd results and this is one. I know little about Scottish politics or this constituency. Perhaps the new Labour MP is a well known highly respected figure in the community so it was a vote for the man rather than the party.

Perhaps this was an anti SNP vote rather than a vote for Labour?

Reform actually did well considering Scotland is pro EU and pro immigration only 1500 votes behind the winner.

Compared to Reform and the Tories In Parliamentary elections Labour do well in all countries. Farage is an acquired taste that a lot of people do not wish to acquire and the Tories are still cap in hand saying sorry for their incompetence.

From the BBC

"Pollsters say the real surprise of the night was the share of the Reform vote - and that the result was a surprise given the narrative through the campaign pointed to an SNP win"

Think you are wrong the SNP were 1/7 on to win the election reform and labour 7/1 against

I think you're right Badger. I don't know the area personally but it is traditionally a Labour stronghold and the SNP aren't as widely popular as it might seem. Whether it has any relevance to the election or not Larkhall has a reputation, which, to be fair, is changing with time, as the most staunchly Rangers/Unionist supporting place imaginable.

Bet there's some interesting boozers round there. Pint?

Shut up Sir Keir, change to what?

Strong candidate most important imo.

High turnout, I wouldn't mind living there for the water alone.

🙂

Daniel is probably not a common name in those parts. There might be a bit of exaggeration but there are stories about green wheelie bins being set on fire, shops whose corporate colours have green in them being painted black instead and it's been claimed that locals wanted traffic lights to have blue rather than green lights.

Never a bad thing and clearly a defining factor here. But a good result for Labour. Always thought the Reform stuff was a little over hyped but a combined Tory/Reform result would have won it.

I get why Labour Soyboys would be pleased about this because Scotland is for them a primarily straight fight with the SNP and they won this round against the odds but Reform still made this into a three-horse race.

Plus Labour's majority is way, way down.

By my reckoning, Reform are the only party to gain votes from the GE result but I might have read that wrong (doing this on the hoof so to speak) so happy to be put right.

See the odds for the Hamilton by-election according to William Hill

  • SNP - 1/7 favourites to win
  • Reform UK - 5/1
  • Labour - 9/1
  • Tories - 100/1
  • LibDems - 200/1
Usual suspects talking nonsense about the betting.

The Labour winner is an absolute comedic figure, the Rab C Nesbitt of Holyrood, he is so thick and hopeless he was not allowed to debate by Labour Head Office.

Meaningless in Scotland. A rebuke for the SNP. Reform have done really well there - as others have said. I'd say many are sick of the SNPs corruption and incompetence.
The McMarxists who do like a man in a dress WHITE, thought police in your home WHITE

A stunning against the odds victory for Labour, will the tories recover? Will Willo recover?

LOL at 'stunning'. Their majority went from 9000 plus to 600. But its a win and for Labour at the moment, any and every one is worthy of celebrating.
