beeb says we're after a Jan buy as Newcastle are lining up some Ditch whizz kid youngster and he'll fall down the pecking order in midfield. Only seen bits and he's looked decent, has come back from injury this season I think. Anyone with a more informed take on his quality/suitability?

As per Wiki he's scored 7 in 148 appearances (although on loan at Newcastle he did get 8 in 14) it might be a couple more than our midfield is managing but he's not likely to be the answer to that particular problem.

It's Smit - who played against us in the last round of the Conference league. He'd probably be a starter for us
Willock is younger than Kamada, Hughes and Lerma and might be a good depth option as the former is probably leaving in the summer and the others are past their prime. He played in Newcastle's recent Champions League game but that may have been showcasing as he is likely behind the starting three in midfield + Ramsey and Miley. On 80,000pw and contract up in 18 months so probably fancies a move back to London. Not sure of his best position in our current setup

Is this a clever move by Newcastle?

"Hey Palace we hear you want Smit? Well so do we. Instead of getting into a fight how about you give us a free run with Smit and in return we will sell you Joe Willock. C'mon Steve we know you like a bargain?"

Willock should have moved ages ago as he gets very limited playing time at Toon. As a Londoner a move back to home sounds very feasible.

Joe Willock was signed by Steve Bruce.
He made 41 appearances for Newcastle last season but this season in the PL he has made 4 appearances, only starting in 1 of these games.
He is certainly fleet of foot and one of his strengths is his well-timed runs into the box.
He is combative and energetic.

It may only be clickbait but a move for Willock makes sense as we need players in January who can hit the ground running in the PL. Willock does tick that box and could play as a 10. I'd like Smit as well but suspect we'd be priced out of that one by PL clubs with more financial clout.

Now OG has said he wants a striker in the window is Willock still likely? He's reportedly on £80 k a week at Newcastle.

To be fair, he was asked whether he felt Palace needed a striker in the January window and responded with a very quick and firm yes. He said it in a tone that would leave no doubt in Parish's mind what he would think if it doesn't happen.

There's no reason why we shouldn't go for Willock and Boey as well as a striker who can run in behind and stretch the defence. By "striker" I'm sure OG means another no 10 not a no 9.

You'd imagine most managers would say the same but it's a bit more urgent in our case with the possibility of JPM leaving.

I think the only player leaving in January will be Uche, nobody else

We are stretched and there's no news of imminent returns for Kphora, Riad and Doucoure to soften the blow in the coming weeks.
Now admittedly we've got along fine without them to date this season, but we have Guehi and Richards nursing injuries, Munoz playing non stop and a crazy schedule in the coming weeks where we'll be lucky to avoid further injuries.
We also have Sarr (and possibly Uche?) at Afcon.
We need a signing/loan or two in the first week of January, but I'll leave it up to the staticians out there to discover whether we have done this in recent seasons.
I'm dubious.

It's starting to look like these two might be done. No sign at all of any light at the end of a long and very dark tunnel. Riad even had a week or two running about in training but broke down again. As for Kphora, not even sure he is first team material.
