Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in signing Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.

The Brazil international, 25, is expected to leave Molineux Stadium after the club was relegated to the Championship.

Palace have held early contact with Gomes' agency, with Wolves currently asking for offers of around £40m.

Atletico Madrid are also believed to have expressed an interest in Gomes and are widely known to be strong favourites for his signature as they look at add a midfielder to their squad this summer.

They have, however, also shown an interest in Atalanta midfielder Ederson which may open up opportunities for Gomes to move elsewhere, including within the Premier League.

The summer transfer window will open on 15 June 2026 and close on 31 August 2026.

Good player, but £40m? Think we're being used to flush out other clubs. Unusual for it to be on the bbc & written by their Arsenal reporter.

This has also popped up in clickbait land about their defender Bueno . . .

Paying top whack for a player whose peak value will probably not increase by much more is not the way we should be going. It's already looking like a poor decision with JSL and Johnson and don't think it's a successful model for a club our size. It's basically how West Ham got themselves into such a mess.

Gomes looks fairly decent but it's not hard to stick out in the team bottom of the league (saying that we paid them 50m for a striker who wasn't even in their team 🤦)... I'm fairly confident there's better options out there who offer better value for money. I do fear though that our DoF will be looking to dip back into the Wolves market!

Couldn't agree more.

I do rate him, but £40m is a lot. And need be going into these deals asking the Q "could he be worth double in 2/3 years"

When you are buying a Wharton or Canvot at 19y/o for under £20m thats easily believable, a 25y/o at £40m is going to be v difficult.

But the reality is not many 25 year olds are going to double in value at that stage of their career - we can't survive purely signing teenagers with huge upside, we have to make some signings who just improve the XI immediately.

£40m for a 25 year old Brazil international who is proven in the league doesn't feel crazy to me.

I 100% agree, but personally I dont think we need to be spending 40m on that age of player.

Lerma, Kamada both of a certain vintage. Despite the hate, have positively added to the squad.

Mateus Fernandes cost that in the summer and he was only 20.
