James McAtee

Much more a Palace signing than some of the other suggestions out there.

Very young, Man City and England U21 with prem spells on loan with the Blades last season.

Loads of resale and would consign Kamada to the bench.

But, as is becoming something of a stuck record, plays in the same space as Wharton. A luxury or an essential rotation?

This is a player that I was hoping Palace would show an interest in.

Unlike Wharton, who looks to distribute the ball quickly, McAtee likes to exploit space and run with the ball.

So it would be a “ yes “ from me although I would hope that any transfer would not be part of a deal taking Wharton in the opposite direction !

He plays further forward than Wharton if I'm not mistaken so could definitely play in the same team. It's the type of signing that I feel more comfortable about... just wished we'd been doing it in the summer window.

I think he's more of a right winger/midfielder, or at least that's where he mostly played for Sheff Utd, albeit he can play centrally, too. He does look more like an Olise-style winger the way he plays than the pace and power of Sarr. Like I said on another thread, for £20 million this looks like a great deal. I can't see him joining us if it was a three-way battle between us, West Ham and Fulham though.

Far too early for them to have made a move. They usually wait till we've done the medical.

He can't be that much further forward as Wharton is not DM.

However, that he is marginally more attack than defend means he would be a brilliant compliment to Wharton, save they may not both play.

As a RW, I doubt he is some Messianic like for like replacement for Olise. Perhaps one to shuffle with Sarr depending on fitness, the oppo etc.?

Jimmy Mac?? It’ll be just like the old days😁

I’d take both!

McAtee was superb for The Blades the season they got promoted. Their supporters credited him and Ndiaye as the main players behind their success that season.

If I were Wharton, I would wait until Real Madrid come knocking. They haven't found a solution to their distribution since Tony Kroos retired. Although Wharton plays a different way to Kroos, he would help them unlock the current tangle going on between all their stars. Sadly, assuming Wharton makes a good recovery he will be gone before long, but hopefully he will see out this season which will ensure our safety.

Having already had James McCarthy and James McArthur he'd be a natural signing for us. I just wonder whether we could do any promo work with James McAvoy or James Arthur to really cement what we're doing?

I agree, lad have the ability to go all the way to the very top. With the injuries, he may need next season as well to start getting the wider footballing world to step up and notice.
