Others may already know this, but I only came across it this morning. Apparently Bert Head offered Botham apprentice terms at Palace in the early 1970s, but he turned it down as he thought he was more likely to be successful in cricket. Not such a bad call I suppose.

No, currently 6th in the National League. One place behind Carlisle United, and I'm old enough to remember them briefly topping the old First Division.

When I was working in Islamabad, Botham, Gower and the head of Sky cricket were experiencing problems persuading the Security guard to allow them into the BHC Compound. Luckily for them I turned up in my car, explained to the guard all was fine and they hopped in and bought me a few drinks!

Needed to know the right people😉 or register as an alcoholic. Spent 2 days at the test match in Karachi, in a box and had copious amounts of alcohol. Met Geoff Boycott and his wife, he was quite pleasant ( although Botham hated him) but his wife was a bit strange
