The Patron Saint of Ireland was a Brit. Back at a time when even the concepts of England and Wales barely existed. Then the irish St Columba brought Christianity back to Iona - on the UK mainland. Long before the UK even existed.
Patrick was a christian. He had also been a Slave - slavery was widespread at the time. Neither Catholic nor Protestant...although he has subsequently been claimed by both.......and he befriended those who followed the Druids. Perhaps there is a lesson in there for all the rest of us ? Love thy neighbour. A drunken hug is better than a drunken brawl.
