Two Paths to glory.

a) Messi/Rooney/Harry Kane/Zaha, play at an Elite academy, and only play for top teams. Royalty - Always pampered in the limelight. Rubbing shoulders with professors of Football. Popular with coaches, scouts, corporate sponsors, journalists, and prospective girlfriends (pretty girls who would tear each other's eyes out to get ownership of you). Likely to marry a childhood sweetheart.

or

b) Climb to glory the hard way. Launder your own kit, get a Sports-massage at home from a family member, stand in the queue to get your Elite Sports Nutrition from Tesco, and never get recognised walking down the street. Playing with fat referees who really haven't got a clue. Conversing with 'football experts' who got their wisdom from the Telly. Adults wonder what career you will do after giving up on the daft football dream. Probably Single & broke.

1. Eze, .....Wycombe Wanderers

2. Ian Wright......Greenwich Borough, i forgot they even existed.

3. Roy Keane.........Cobh Ramblers. Puddles around Goal & the corner flags.

4. Zinedene Zidane..........Cannes (4 years ), "the stadium is mostly used for football" , and God knows what other stuff fills their capacity ? car boot sales ? Cheese & Wine fairs.

5. Mateta.......Chateauroux.......who ?

What others ? either promoted quickly or even where it took a while to be recognised & identified as mustard.

Dougie Freeman came from Barnet.
Scott Dann Came from Blackburn.
Tomorrow we can do the "C"s.

Johnny 'Budgie' Byrne played for Epsom Town and Guildford City Youth before we signed him.

One of my favourites.

Stuart Pearce played for Wealdstone for 5 years before Bobby Gould signed him for Coventry.
Graham Roberts went to Tottenham from Weymouth.

Don't forget Waddle missed the one that put us out with his high, wide & unhandsome effort.
Pearce is still, as far as I know, the only player to appear on a punk record - he's in a crowd shot on the inside cover of The Lurkers' live album.

Well, we will keep him in all's forgiven.
