Getafe Manager

Sounds like an interesting chap, with interesting methods.

I'm all for anyone who pushes against this pass-to-death Barcelona football, which has become the expected, for every team, in ever league despite the player types.

Its why Glasners philosophy of attack as soon as possible was so refreshing.

It does feel however that there is a of a rebalancing, with possession not now held up as the marker it was a year or so ago.

Agree, we have even gone a bit back to the Charles Hughes methods, kicking the ball deliberately out of play at kick offs, rugby style, long throws, keeper kicking longer, the 2 golden rules of football are, 1, if the ball is in the oppositions half, they won’t score, and 2, the more times you get the ball in the oppositions box, the more chances you have of scoring, simplistic but true.

Funny you should bring that up, here's an article from today on the bbc . . .

Talking of different management styles, I stumbled on this piece the other day by a United fan trying to understand why Ollie's 3-4-3 set up works better than the same used by Amorin. For sure United would be happy to do a swap.

Anyway, managing a top football club these days is so much more scientific and forensic than in our day Lanzo. Fact is, Ollie's got it and Amorin hasn't.

About time too.

Peps revolution was simply to play a system noone was used to or had worked out how to combat it yet. 10 years on and finally teams have started to realise that you don't have to be Pep Mk2 to be successful.

Now, everyone is used to playing Peps possession football, everyone's forgotten how to play against old school football tactics 😎

Glasners tactics are perfect for us, counter attack, you cant play counter attack at Man Utd, Glasner is just better staying where he is now.

It's why Hodgson failed at Liverpool. Big club mentality is to win with attacking football not nick a win. That said I think Glasner is a much better manager that Roy.

It'd certainly be interesting to see Glasner in an environment where he can't play the counter attacking style we see. Fwiw, I don't see him as a Counter attacking manager - more of an 'attack with directness and purpose'. His isn't possession football and leads to us conceding the ball more, so it's often deployed in counter attacking scenarios. but he's also about pressing in the right areas, and as the ManUtd vlogger link showed, setting traps and stealing the ball in certain areas.

So I think he'll do alright at a big club.
Just not yet (please).

There are a million ways that managing Manchester Utd. is a right pain, you are not left to just manage, the press, ex players, ex managers ALL want a piece of you,put a step wrong and the wolf pack drag you down, daily calls naming possible replacements in fact football is low on the agenda whilst the "circus" is in motion.
