Frederick Forsyth

His early books, Day of the Jackal, The Odessa File and The Dogs of War were enjoyable but I lost touch with him after that. Might have to revisit his work.

RIP.

Fantastic author. Devil's Alternative was almost a prophesy about Ukraine wanting independence from Russia. Well ahead of his time, and a loss to the literary world. Only 86, because it seems like he's been around forever. I thought he had to be 100 , given his wealth of experience.

I read the books and watched the films. A couple are amongst my favourites. I watched both the Odessa File and The Day of the Jackal recently enough. And although I have seen the remake - it can do one. Thanks Frederick for the entertainment. RIP.
.I presumably have the books here amongst my hundreds of books. Must take a look and maybe read them again.

Which remake are we talking about here? The Bruce Willis one was truly awful and the Eddie Redmayne attempt not much better but I can't really see why it would be described as 'woke'.
I was talking about the s*** Bruce Willis, Richard Gerbil Gere one. I think PV was talking about the series - which I haven't seen and also won't be seeing. Who is the French policeman?

The Sky series with Eddie Redmayne bears absolutely no resemblance to Forsyth's original story. He is not engaged to hit a politician, but rather a weirdo, billionaire AI tech mogul.

I actually thought it was well produced and, if you ignore the obvious flaws in the plotlines, it makes for good pulp viewing and it entertained me on a couple of wet afternoons anyway.
