Emigration of us. Outa this kip , off to somewhere Sunny or nice

Location
south pole
Country
Netherlands
Either good money, good climate, good scenery, good dating, good crime-free culture, good food, or some other nice things to attract you there.

When a Brit arrives into Saudi for a lucrative contract ( teaching, engineering, healthcare), they are not an immigrant into that country. They are an 'Ex Pat'......a rather glamorous term for the same thing.

Huge numbers of elderly Brits off to Benidorm & the Costa Del Sol. The retirement money goes much further when the heating bills are cheap.

Somewhere Sunny........Cyprus
Somewhere nice...........Norway...people more friendly than the morning commute through Victoria Station, beautiful scenery.

School & college leavers. Brits from unpleasant neighbourhoods that beg an escape plan.

The tradition is at least 500 years old. The British Empire was not created in a back-office in Croydon. Many who left never returned.

Brits driven out of here by unaffordable housing. Formerly it was unemployment. Or finally sick and tired of the grind of life in our stressful cities. Something similar with the irish.....aided and abetted by a political & media class encouraging them to leave. "the sun shines better over there"

And it raises the question of 'What happens to your hometown when yourself and all your buddies up-sticks and leave' ?

It is evident that very many HOL-Eagles live abroad already.

Benidorm is basically 550km from the Costa del Sol & there are not that many ex pats who live in Benni. Heating bills, as others are the same if not more than the UK, depends where you are on the costas. Also, there are a lot more middle aged/40s & 30s out here, those 'elderly' British are declining after they came here in the 90s/00s.

Having lived in a tropical country for a while I can confirm that your heating costs you nothing. However, your air conditioning costs you a fortune. With electricity costing double what it does here you won’t be better off in this regard.

Property itself was much cheaper, and the sea is warmer. Food was also cheaper. However, there are armed guards at the entrance to every shop and guns are everywhere. Murder being a common form of death. The Police and Judiciary are corrupt. Driving standards are appalling. Health and safety doesn’t exist. You pay for every kind of health service. If you can find it.

Tried it. Enjoyed it for a while. Had a huge beach front house with staff to look after everything. Had a good friend murdered by someone who he loaned money to. Others who died from medical conditions that would have been treated here. I now live back here.

In my experience and as the saying goes. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. 😅

As much as the London is a kip nowadays I still love it and spending time there. Perhaps it's because I don't live there anymore I appreciate it more.
