Either good money, good climate, good scenery, good dating, good crime-free culture, good food, or some other nice things to attract you there.
When a Brit arrives into Saudi for a lucrative contract ( teaching, engineering, healthcare), they are not an immigrant into that country. They are an 'Ex Pat'......a rather glamorous term for the same thing.
Huge numbers of elderly Brits off to Benidorm & the Costa Del Sol. The retirement money goes much further when the heating bills are cheap.
Somewhere Sunny........Cyprus
Somewhere nice...........Norway...people more friendly than the morning commute through Victoria Station, beautiful scenery.
School & college leavers. Brits from unpleasant neighbourhoods that beg an escape plan.
The tradition is at least 500 years old. The British Empire was not created in a back-office in Croydon. Many who left never returned.
Brits driven out of here by unaffordable housing. Formerly it was unemployment. Or finally sick and tired of the grind of life in our stressful cities. Something similar with the irish.....aided and abetted by a political & media class encouraging them to leave. "the sun shines better over there"
And it raises the question of 'What happens to your hometown when yourself and all your buddies up-sticks and leave' ?
It is evident that very many HOL-Eagles live abroad already.
