Croydon schoolgirl murder trial

So he is on video stabbing her to death and arrested soon afterwards, calm, and articulate, while indignant and mouthing off to the police. He can’t deny killing her but he claims he didn’t murder her. Also claims he had the 12 inch kitchen knife for a lawful reason.
What’s the chance he will refuse to go into the witness box? As anyone who has ever sat on a jury will know, refuse to give evidence equals guilty as charged.

I'm never sure, but are we really supposed to be commenting on a live trial?

As reported on the BBC

"Prosecutor Alex Chalk KC said the defendant, now 18, did not deny wielding the knife and causing Elianne's death but had pleaded not guilty to murder on the basis that his responsibility was diminished due to his autism. (FFS is this a defence? seems very unfair on other people with autism)

"He drove the knife 12cm into her neck, severing the carotid artery and causing injuries that were unsurvivable."

Mr Sentamu also denies illegal possession of a blade, claiming he had a "lawful reason" for carrying it."
Be interesting to know what the lawful reason was
