1. Band Aid/Live Aid.....allegedly Bob Geldof nicked the idea from Midge Ure

2. Comedian Denis Leary.....achieved some fame & fortune by nicking the jokes of Bill Hicks

3. Marconi robbed the Radio idea from Tesla who was influenced by Hertz.

4. Computer GUI interface.....Xerox robbed by Microsoft....robbed by Apple

5. Very many politicians accuse rivals of stealing their ideas. Especially after those ideas got a good response from the voting public.

6. The army of Ancient Rome. Achieved greatness by nicking the battle tactics of their arch rival Hannibal Barkah. And to add insult to injury, they nicked a Carthaginian ship , dismantled it, and started knocking out cheap copies to beat the band. Added to nicking the Gladius sword from the Celts, Concrete from elsewhere, it all became a habit.

7. Soviet spies did one on the Manhatten Project. Oppenheimer failed to see the funny side of being copied by Peaky Blinders.

8. Better Call Saul......he copied the suits of 'Matlock' to look the part to the folks in retirement homes. Genius.

9. The early Christian Church borrowed the images of winged-Angels ( Erotes ) from the Ancient Greece. And did imagery of the Vestal Virgins influence later depictions of important Virgin female religious icons ? Not to mention the supplanting of Christian Churches on top of previously existing Pagan shrines in either the Celtic World or the Columbian Latin-American World - i will nick your idea of where is a good spot to worship.

10. Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe and all the literary lads....borrowed from each other unashamedly.

What others ?

J K Rowling got her ideas for Harry Potter from Lord of The Rings. Not much doubt Mr Tolkien has helped make her a fortune.

Referring to point no.1 I was on a cruise in the last couple of years and Midge Ure was a guest speaker. A very emotional lady suggested to him that Bob Geldof had stolen his idea and asked how Midge felt about it. Apparently according to Midge Ure himself the two met to discuss the idea and it was decided that they needed one of them to be the figure head for promoting the campaign and appearing in front of the cameras etc. Midge Ure had no particular desire to be that person and Bob Geldof was happy to take on the role so the decision was made. Midge Ure had no problem with the situation.

that is as I remember being said over a few interviews at the time.
Midge didnt want the spotlight & bob was happy enough to do it.

3. Radio.

To be fair to Marconi lots of people around the world were working on radio at the same time and were following the minor breakthroughs of each other, pretty much the same applies to TV. It was a race to see who cracked it first.

Edison was the biggest rip off merchant. Yes he was an inventor but many of his inventions were in act the work of his staff or him exploiting the ideas of other people.

Bill Gates was a modern Edison. He bough the copyright of his first operating system MS DOS from a couple of "shed" inventors who didn't know what they had. He also stole Windows from Xerox.
